Credit card and I had gone into the red with my bank because of pants I had bought for Craig's dad's funeral (had a bunch of miscellaneous charges made after that purchase, so it fucked things up) and the service charges had added up. Mostly credit card.

Got a couple hundred more to go on my credit card. Looking forward to that feeling of freedom.

Then I get to think about student loans. Fuck.

I'll have some student loans but it won't be horrible. Even if it's 20 grand it's low interest with the government and it'll pay off.

Why do you guys use credit cards? Never have, and I don't plan on it either.

For emergency purposes only. I had several emergencies.

Cash back bonus on my credit cards. Honestly, I charge about 80% of the things I buy. Food is normally the only exception.

Also grats on getting out of debt. I'm hoping to be able to make it out of college with no debt, but we'll see what happens.

The only reason I'll need a credit card is if I make a large purchase. Until then, debit cards work good, because they remind you of how much money you really don't have.

don't you want a credit card so you can build your credit to allow you to take loans or something similar later in the future?

I kinda find it annoying that you need credit for shit like that. Credit does not necessarily dictate how responsible one is.

Meh, I know how much I'm spending with my credit card. Its for me, just way less of a hasle than a debit card. I get what I want, pay it off at the end of every month, build credit for future purchases and get a larger limit.

How is it considered a hassle to use a debit card?

Typing in a pin vs scribbling my name. But again the main reason I use a credit card is due to cashback that I get, even though its small still better than nothing.

Banks are apparently more likely to approve people with good credit ratings and some credit card debt for mortgage loans and such. If you're not interested in ever buying property and always paying cash for used cars, then by all means, don't bother with credit cards. It's fucked up, but that seems to be the way it works.

Heh, both of those things probably take ~5 seconds, at most. But, I see your point. Personally, I've never messed with credit cards, nor do I plan on it. My credit is good enough as it is.. I've never been late on a car payment, rent, cell phone bill, etc etc.. so at least I think my credit rating should be okay. Not entirely sure how that works..

MightyJoe

Well I don't have to pay any of those things currently. So its pretty much just car repairs/other small purchase that I make and pay off. I pay for tuition, phone, car insurence, but its all payed to my parents and they send in the final payment, so I don't really have any way to show those purchases.

You should celebrate by buying a brand new vehicle.

Everyone could use some extra cash. Johnny Cash, that is.
