I was all excited when I saw they lowered the prices to $280 until I realized that was just the Core unit and it didn't come with a hard drive. Sneaky bastards. So, I shelled out the $350 for a Premium. Got Def Jam: Icon (pretty sucky gameplay, if you ask me), Madden '07, and Ghost Recon. Haven't played Ghost Recon yet, probably will tonight. But, what are some good, popular games for the 360? Yeah yeah Halo 2 and everything but I haven't got into that and there's no point starting now. I'm just gonna wait for Halo 3.

How does Xbox live work? Give me a brief explanation if someone would, please. You just plug the ethernet cord from the Xbox to, in my case, my laptop, right? Think it will work on a AT&T highspeed laptop card?

By the way, I'm anxious for Halo 3 to come out so I can own you fools.

I'm pretty sure you have to have the ethernet cable running from your internet source, such as a router. You can get a wireless adaptor for your xbox, though, and use the same wireless that your laptop is using.

Well, it's one of these AT&T cards (http://www.amazon.com/Sierra-Wireless-AC875-EDGE-Laptop/dp/B000LPBY7W/ref=sr_1_2/104-2843380-6731114?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1187019490&sr=1-2). As far as I know, this isn't it's own wireless network, it just connects to AT&T's network. Would I have to get a router?

Damnit.. I might as well just set up my own wireless network at my apartment. How much do you think that would cost?

Setting up a wireless network costs like 60 bucks if you've got regular broadband internet. I honestly don't know what you should do in your case. Maybe somehow use your computer as a router to your xbox, like you said in your first post, but I don't think that would work.

No clue about that shit. Why don't you have a normal goddamn external broadband modem? That reminds me of 56k.

All I have is a laptop man. :(

Well, you might have to get an external modem, router, and a wireless card then. It'd be a bit more than 60 bucks I'd think.

What sort of games are you after? Sports? FPS? Racing? Platform?

That's the system I wanna get next. Halo 3, GTA IV, and Assassin's Creed are pretty much the only games I wanna get (that and the slightly "old" Dead Rising). Too bad MGS4 won't be on the 360. :(

I've heard that someone actually makes a router that works with Verizon and Sprint connection cards, which would be your best choice, if you absolutely can't get cable or DSL. You can also try to use internet connection sharing, but it doesn't work very well, in my experience. DNS doesn't forward properly and stuff. You'll have to manually setup the XBOX's IP settings. The ICS wizard should give your laptop the address 192.168.0.1 (WTF?), so you'll need to set the XBOX to
IP: 192.168.0.100
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS1: 209.120.229.62 (that's Zelaron)
DNS2: 192.168.0.1 (if Zelaron is down, it's possible your DNS forwarding will be working ATM...)

Yeah I researched quite a bit yesterday online and I'm gonna enter all the information manually. Now, those numbers aren't going to be the exact same, correct? I'll have to look up the diagnostics for the wireless connection to AT&T and enter in those numbers it gives me. Right..?

Sorry, I'm a noob when it comes to this shit.

Same question to you, T1, what genre of game are you interested in?

Those are the exact numbers to enter on your XBOX after you've used the Internet Connection Sharing wizard on your laptop. You also need to be sure to properly setup the internet sharing. Be sure that the source is the air card and that you are sharing with the ethernet adapter.

When you're done, hit [Windows]+R to bring up the run box, enter "cmd" to bring up the command window, and type "ipconfig /all" to confirm that your IP address on the ethernet adapter is set to 192.168.0.1 (the numbers on the XBOX will be slightly different if it isn't).

Some good games for the 360

Gears of War ( a must have)
Quake 4 ( An awesome fps with a decent story line)
Guitar Hero 2 (Online mode allows for downloading songs)
Tiger Woods ( Good game, online capabilities)
Madden

Then games to have just because

Doom 3 (Scary Shit- play drunk and watch yourself pee your pants)
Halo 1 and 2 (the 3rd is out on Sept 25th)
PGR (who doesnt like car games)

I love the system, but some of the games are not for me. Im looking foward to the game releases at the end of the year (Decemeber)

I appreciate the help, WW. I'll try this out tonight and see what happens.

Gruesome, I'm stuck at the very last boss on Gears of War. BADASS game. It's sort of short though. Me and my roomate played for probably 5 hours Monday and 3 hours yesterday and we're already at the end.

Neither one of us has a sniper rifle. I've got a rocket launcher but I doubt that'll do anything. The next game better last a little bit longer. I love the graphics man, I can't wait till we get an HDTV.

D3V, yeah I've got it :) Haven't managed to play it yet but I'm working on it.

Honestly I played Quake 3, CSS all on pc. Im really into fps.. and rpg games. I beat like final fantasy every single one to come out. gears of war was fun beat it.

Quake 4 is never gunna be as good as Quake 3...

Diablo 3 will be tight!

Quake 4 has an actual single player game tho, unlike Q3.

Also, I just got a 360 as well, and Dead Rising is some of the best zombie-bashing fun I've ever head. I stabbed a zombie in the face with a shower head and blood flowed out of it like water. I laughed so hard I peed.

Quake 3 has multiplayer against bots, as opposed to an actual separate single player campain.

Yeah, I don't remember an actual single player in Quake 3, just kinda multiplayer with bots.

It looks as if my laptop isn't picking up that the ethernet is plugged in. Is there something I need to download in order for it to register that the ethernet cable is plugged in? I didn't think so, but maybe...

WetWired
2007-08-16, 08:27 PM
Are you using the correct cable? To connect an XBOX to your PC, you need a crossover cable. To connect an XBOX or PC to a router, you need a patch cable. Put the ends of the cable side by side and compare them; if the same colors are in the same places, it's a patch cable. If two of the colors are swapped (orange and green, I think), it's a crossover cable.

!King_Amazon!
2007-08-16, 09:07 PM
You can also make your own crossover cable if you think you can handle doing it. It isn't incredibly hard.

Thanatos
2007-08-17, 08:24 AM
I'm just using the ethernet cable that comes with the Xbox 360 Premium bundle.

!King_Amazon!
2007-08-17, 08:25 AM
That wouldn't be a crossover then. You'll have to either make or buy one.

You're supposed to plug your box directly into your modem or router, I'm not sure how it would work being plugged into your PC

well actually you can, thats how people (the real professionals) standbye. They bring up your ip address on thier computer and boot you from the game, instead of just pushing the button on thier modem. This only happens though if they get host, but they usually have an army grade connection, so they always get it.

Man what the fuck why does this have to be so damn complicated. All I wanna do is play my Xbox on the internet goddamnit!!!!!!!

!King_Amazon!
2007-08-18, 10:47 AM
It's complicated because you have retarded internet. If you had normal internet like everyone else it's simple, you connect the ethernet cable to your modem and you're done.

Is it that hard for you to get a crossover cable? Just go to Best Buy and say "I want to buy a cat 5 crossover cable"
