View Full Version : Texas Sucks and New Car

Two unrelated things in this topic.

1.) The Texas EMS department sucks. I have ALL the qualifications needed for EMT training, yet they won't let me. Why? I'm not 18. I'm not asking for a job. I would like a job, or I'd like to volunteer after I get trained, but I'm just asking for training. They won't let me. Which is fucking retarded in my opinion.

2.) This is about a week late, but I finally got a car. It's a $600 1987 Honda Accord. I'll admit, it looks like trash. But it's mine. Which I'm happy with. Well, technically it's in my dad's name, but it's my car. I paid for it. It's mine. I've actually been able to get out and do things on my own. I love the freedom.

Sounds great.

Do you have a current job?

and

Since i got my job at BK, I really dont take orders anymore from my mom. I respect the shit out of her and ill do pretty much anything she wants, but if theres something I want to do, theres no telling me Im not going to do it.

Grats on a car, and I wouldn't want a 12 year old tryign to bring me back from the brink of death either.

I thought even if you were under 18 you could have tittle in your name. Maybe each state is different with that.

making pizzas is less stressful than picking up pieces of people off the road anyways.

Best of luck man. Beats the fuck out of working at where I do. But then I shouldn't complain, I do like working there.

Insurance is the most sexest thing I can think of.

I got a new Honda Accord too. After having my shitty Nissan Sentra's engine explode (had it 2 months) and getting another Accord with issues (stopped payment due to 5 quarts of oils burning up in 500 miles O.O), I finally got a nice silver V6. It's a bit too fancy for my taste (black leather interior) but after two dunces the money had to go towards something more reliable (all used cars).

Yeah, no kiddin. My step-sister is 17.. she's totaled TWO cars by now. Me? I've never even been in a wreck but our insurance is about the same. How the fuck do you explain that?

I have a friend who passed his driving test yesterday morning, and he's been looking around for insurance on his brothers car so he can drive it.

His brother has been in two accidents, and has points on his license for speeding. As a result, the lowest insurance my friend can find is £1463 ($2902).

In my experience women are worse drivers. I think too many guys just push the envelope. Most of the time I see someone barely able to keep their car in a lane it's a woman on a cell phone. So if guys would drive a bit slower I bet it'd be reversed =).

Is it not against the law, in American states, to be talking on your mobile whilst you're driving?

That's being stereotypical, though. Not every guy drives fast. I have a buddy that drives like an old granny. They shouldn't look at it in a "guy vs. girls" perspective. Just look at the individual and judge them from there. The system is shit.

Just about every system in America is shit.

Not yet. In some states (I think mine) it's illegal to text while driving, though. They don't generally look for it but if they catch you it's a fine.

Last I heard any form of using your cell phone within the city limits of chicago can get you fined.

Lenny

I think the law over here is that if you're caught using anything other than a hands-free phone whilst driving, you get a fine of £60 ($119), and three points on your licence.

You can also get the fine and points if you don't have proper control of the vehicle whilst using a hands-free phone, and the police see you driving poorly.

It is being stereotypical. That's how the insurance industry looks at things ...statistics. I'm not saying ALL guys drive fast. But I'm saying from everything I've seen a guy is more likely to speed than a woman.

Yeah and that's fucked up. I shouldn't be punished because other teenage idiots have the need for speed and excitement.

The tests show that accidents that happen due to someone being on their cell phone is because they were focused on the conversation, not because they were driving with one hand.

It's not illegal in Texas, though some cities have ordinances against it. You can't talk on a non-hands free phone while driving in Dallas, for instance.

Texting while driving is realllllly dumb =P. Sorry. My friend did it once when I was riding with him and if I hadn't been he would have had an accident due to a car coming into the tunnel (wide enough for one car) at the same time as he was heading for it.

I've seen a friend of mine text and talk on another cell while driving.

I can text and drive just fine... was going 75 the other day on the interstate while texting. Just concentrate and don't be any more of a dumbass.

It only takes one mistake to put you in jail for many years for manslaughter. If you hit a person or injured one while doing that bullshit the "lol I was texting" excuse won't go too far in front of the jury =P.
