I've picked up guild wars again, and was wondering if anyone else here plays. Current char's name is Dubby Lanford.

I play, and SYG plays... though both of us only occasionally.

SYG is Skel Flambender.

I'm always one of three:

Prophecies - Raphael Janaed
Factions - Lheni Janaed
Nightfall - Azrael Janaed

Mostly it's Raph, but only because he's able to go to any of the three continents. :p

It's just me that's only on occasionally, then. :p

Which professions/s are you, btw?

Currently E/Me... though I'm not using any of my mesmer skills. Didnt know you could switch secondary at level 20 otherwise i'd of gone Monk or Ranger (troll ungent... ai's are rather mean to monks. But not rangers.)

That's quite a nice build. I've always thought about trying it... but I always stick to N/E. :p

If you've got all the Mesmer skills that cut down MP used, and thigns like double shock, then E/Me is something you don't want to mess with.

I've got a friend on GW who's an E/Me 20, and we were farming the desert on Tyria, and we came across a group of about 6 Hydra. Cheeky little devils they are... anyway he ran, the henchies and I were taken out in a few seconds (those damn -250 meteors), he laughed a bit, then ran in and took all 6 out by himself. Granted, it took him a few minutes of running in, casting the spell, running out, healing, repeat, but it worked perfectly.

I was looking a little at E/Me skills on the wiki and something in particular caught my eye - rather significantly.

Mesmer - Mantra of Earth : reduces earth damage taken (40-50%~) and gives 2 energy when hit
Elementalist - Stone Striker : all damage you take or deal is earth property
Elementalist - Stoneflesh Aura : reduces damage 25 (or 33 with 16 earth) and immune to crits

Of course, not much for healing, but as long as those enchantments dont poof i cant see that character dying.

There's also one that gives you +20 armour against Earth, methinks.

The only problem is, that's 4 slots used. You'll need some big tank/nuke skills to balance it all out.

Level 5?!

That's an achievement. You'll have so much fun trying to complete the Elona mission at Lvl 5. :p

Hopefully I can get on later today - I'm trying to get SLi with my old and new graphics cards working at the mo.

Gene and I just picked the game up yesterday.

Necron Valenyr - Me
Taelic Valenyr - Gene

I'm a necromancer and he is a warrior.

I plan on making a ranger also. And then most likely a monk since I love support.

For some reason I read this as "Lookin for outwar buddies" and had a siezure. During this siezure I had numerous nightmares. Thank you for ruining my life.

Its allright. Level 7 necromancer so.. I havn't really grouped or anything like that yet. Was thinking about goin Mesmer as my secondary. Still trying to decide on what to go for ranger and monk secondaries.

Outwar was a website-based game which required "referrals" for you to advance.

Pretty much, to get better, you had to post your specialized outwar link all over the internet and hope thousands of people click it, so there was pretty much constantly new threads disguised as useful threads, even sometimes having links that looked useful, but it was outwar.

You should go Necro/Monk.

Once you reach level 20 you can change your secondary profession whenever you want tho.

I've always liked N/E - you're going to be out of the thick of the action most of the time anyway because you're a Necro. Same goes for Elementalist.

You have good MP as a Necro, and high Soul Feast points mean that you'll rarely run out of MP - perfect for spells.

Hmm... I was thinking Mesmer so I had more hexs and such for disable, I like to play with strategy rather than brute force. Are you saying Mesmer would be a waste of a subclass? I have a monk right now at level 5 also. What are the good aspects of going N/E or N/Mo?

Oh also I'm a blood necro, and as mesmer I can also slow the npc and drain his life. I can kill 5 or so at a time this way.

Lenny

With my playing style, Me would be a waste. But I like to stand back sending fireballs into everyone whilst the henchies get into the thick of the action.

The good thing about Mesmer is that it's a great interrupter, makes the most of MP and can hex something to hell and back. If that's the way you play, then obviously Mesmer is the choice to go for.
