Man, I'm having a BITCH of a time attempting to update my Live account to my 360 so I can get online..

My old modem setup that I was successful in using before is gone, and replaced with a new modem, Touchstone Telephony Modem. I've power cycled the modem, turned it off prior to connecting it to my 360, all to no avail.. That was all I had to do in the past, however it's not working now.

I'm currently on hold with Comcast right now to see if they can help me, and if not, I'm going to call Xbox Live customer support. I tried all their online suggestions already.. This sucks. I actually got the initiative to update my shit, and I can't do it.

DOH!

BTW, when trying to connect, it can't establish an IP address. That's where I'm stuck.

Anyone have any other suggestions or feedback for me?

If it can't establish an IP address, that means it can't contact the DHCP server, or all the IPs allowed for the modem are in use (on Road Runner, you have to power down the modem for a few seconds in order for it to free up IPs, can't say for Comcast). If you only have one IP, and you're switching between a computer and your XBox without powering down the modem, that may be your problem. Otherwise, if the link light on the XBox side is on, I'd expect something is wrong on the other end of the modem.

What I have found to be the problem 80% of the time is the Ethernet cords that the modem companies send out... for some reason, they seem to not work right. I have been through like...6 different modems, and each time I have had to buy another Ethernet cable. And they weren't all for my house either, so I know that rules that out. My suggestion, buy a new ethernet cable. If you aren't using the one that came with the modem, then I don't know what to say.

Alright, I finally got it working. Everytime I was power cycling my modem, a new dynamic IP was being established, and for some reason it was confusing my 360? Meaning, I had the 360 Network Settings set to Automatically obtaining the IP and DNS servers, and it wasn't being successful. First I tried to get a Static IP from Comcast, but those dicks don't give them out, then I simply wrote down the IP I was given and manually put it in. For some reason the IP passed, but the DNS didn't resolve. So I simply tried ANOTHER IP that was given after the power cycle, manually input it, and viola! It now works all the time. Thank God, because it was driving me upt he wall!

I think I'm getting addicted to Halo again though, which isn't good. I played for about 8 hours over the last two days, and I'm already dreaming about it again. :)

I love you, Dragoons!

I played with Great Thanatos yesterday for a while, and we got smoked! *cough* he's not very good *cough* Haha! J/K, I had fun playing at least. Got my level back up to a 28 in TS from a 25 too. :D
