My comments on Lenny and Joe's game: http://www.redhotpawn.com/gameanalysis/boardhistory.php?gameid=2993243

1. d3 Nh6

An untraditional opening.

2. Bf4 Nf5
3. e4 Nd4
4. Na3 Ne6

I think by this point Joe has a susbtantial advantage as he has control of the center of the bored with his pawns on d3 and e4, plus he has two pieces developed (or perhaps 1.5 pieces, as the Knight's position is somewhat weak) to Lenny's one.

5. Bg3 Ng5
6. h4

I like Joe's idea of chasing the Knight around while grabbing space, and potentially developing his rook at the same time.

6 ... Ne6
7. c4 Nc5
8. f4

I'm not sure what the purpose of this move was. It seems to weaken Joe's position a bit. One, it locks his dark bishop in, making it useless at the time, and two it potentially weakens the King's position as Lenny could use the space created by f4 for an attack.

8 ... Na4
9. Rb1 Nc5
10. b4 Na4

Lenny hangs his knight. Joe can capture with his queen.

11. f5

Joe either ignores it or doesn't see it. He also misses that 11 ... Nc4 forks his rook and queen.

11 ... Nc4

12. Qc2 NxR
13. QxN

Joe loses the exchange.

13 ... h4
14. Nf3 Rh6
15. d4 Ra6
16. Nb3 Rc6
17. c5 Ra6

Joe can capitalize here and win Lenny's queen and pawn for a bishop.

18. Ng5

Joe misses the chance to capture the queen. 18. Bxc7 and then Lenny must either use his queen to capture the bishop, where after Joe's knight would capture his queen, or any other move and Joe could simply capture the queen with his bishop on the next move.

18 ... g6
19. fxg6 fxg6
20. Nxc7

Though Joe doesn't get the queen, at least he wins a rook for a knight.

20 ... QxN

Surprisingly Lenny chooses to capture Joe's knight. Now Joe gets his queen anyway.

21. BxQ Ra4
22. Bd3 Nc6
23. O-O Nxb4
24. Bc4

Joe threatens mate with 25 Bf7++.

24 ... Ra3
25 e5

Joe misses the mate.

25 ... Rg3
26 QxN Rg4
27. Nf3

Joe no longer can use Bf7++ to mate.

27 ... a5
28. Qd2 a4
29. a3 d5
30. Bxd5 b5

Hang's Lenny's rook. Joe later capitalizes on this mistake.

31. BxR Kd7
32. Bb8 Kd8
33. d5 Kd7
34. c6+ Kd8

Not entirely sure what Lenny is trying by moving his King back and forth.

35. c7+ Kd7
36. Qa5 e6
37. Qxb5+ Ke7
38. dxe6 Kxe6
39. Bd5+ Ke7
40. Re1 Bh6
41. Ba7

Joe threatens mate with Bc5

41 ... Bf4
42. Bc5++

Did I do goooood? :p

So it looks like Joe had the upper hand from the 4th move? Ouch...

And I thought WoW was a waste of time.

Yea...

I would not move that knight around so much in the beginning. I think you didn't move anything but the knight for 12 moves, in which Joe could have developed many of his pieces and put them in an attacking position. Meanwhile, the only piece you had developed was a knight.

That's because I like my knight.

In the past he's served me very well.

I've won games before by only moving that night, the pawn above the rook on the left hand side, and the rook.

Wow, I didn't realize how many opportunities I had missed. I knew there was a few, but I didn't notice that first check mate, until you had pointed it out.

Thank the gods, that's all I can say. :p

You know, I've got a Chessmaster game somewhere. I've never been able to beat it... I wonder if MJ can.

He could make the move, then I do that same move on Chessmaster, then I make the move on redhotpawn that the Chessmaster game has.

It'd have to be done in one sitting, though.

I can on occasion...not usually, though.

Awww... now that's no fun. You're supposed to be Deep Mjordan2nd; The Black Jesus of Chess!

Heh, I'm not that good at Chess...

It depends. If it's an older Chessmaster (4000 or less) I could usually, if it's 10th edition, it would be seldom that I win. There's some other computer programs that blow Chessmaster out of the water, though, in playing strength. Fritz, probably the second-best selling commercial chess program beat the current world champion in a 6-game match.

Hydra, a dedicated computer, has never lost to a human.

Well... it's a tiny bit dated.

It's the original Chessmaster... for the Game Boy... from 1990.

I would not be happy if I lost.

We'll have to give it a go sometime, then. :p

But it will have to be all at once, on a day when we're both free.

Can't be this weekend because I'm busy.

Just go ahead and throw that out for me.

Aww, come on Joe! It's an antique. You don't throw away antiques!

If I keep it for a bit longer I might be able to sell it for a bit of mahoney. :)

I believe something has to be over 50 years old to be considered an antique, Lenny.

Lenny

Meh... technology. These days if it's outdated it's ancient. I've got a ten-year old antique sat on top of my wardrobes - no USB, no PCI, can't upgrade the RAM. Now THAT is an antique.

Generally 25 is vintage, 75 is antique

Apparently intel has developed an 80 core processor. I think they win.

I've heard of quad, my teacher mentioned 8 core, but nothing more.
