View Full Version : We need new members? How are we going do it?
Previously we attracted them via games and "hacks" like with DII. I guess Taco did some advertising too. But really the forum is just off topic nonsense now, which there are much larger forums for, like SomethingAwful. So how do we compete with that? We need ideas to get people to post.
The only thing I can think of right now is telling everyone on your buddy list to join the forum. http://zelaron.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38234

A lot of new members seem to be playing WoW. Create an official Zelaron WoW guild on a new server where people would likely join a guild with an already existing member-base. I'm not going to quit playing on Burning Legion with Volls and all, but all the newer members in the game could go to the Zelaron guild on a new server and that would help attract members.
Of course, this doesn't have to be WoW. This idea could apply to pretty much any game.
So who's going to do it? I don't play WoW, so we would need someone to organize this. And to be honest, I doubt the people here are willing to do it. Not so much the organizing, but leaving their respective servers to play on the new one and be active. People are probably pretty niched into their little WoW worlds by now.

i thought of a way to start gaining people to our forum through halo. I dont have the equipment, but somebody, maybe sue or glory, can make a montage and send it to me. I can then post it on many halo realted forumes and say that we chat about it here, with other games like dII. WoW, etc. i can also talk to guys on xbox live that i play with and encourage them to join but these are just ideas righ now.

Set up a D2 spam bot, thats easy.
But the D2 section of this is mostly dead.

If we get members that play d2, they are bound to talk about d2.
Well, are you willing to set up bots then?
Bon Clay

Honestly D2 is not a good basis, who the fuck still plays D2. I quit when they deleted my account back with that 1.10 patch.
Although I had stopped playing long before that, killing cows for hours loses its luster rather quickly.

Its now baal's minions/ baal no cows..cows=sux=\
Even still it's boring, I recommend WoW base. Go to the Wow off topic forum and spam this website. Tell them you have hacks over here or something, I'm pretty sure that's how I got hooked back in the d2 days. (Bots 'n all)
Alright, then we've established that bots are a horrible idea.

Grav, interesting subject!
Google indexes approximately 133,000 pages containing the key word "Zelaron", most of which are threads on Zelaron.com. A majority of our visitors find the board via Google and other search engines when a thread's text content matches their search query.
What happens when a board has 436,118 unique posts? Quite a few people who have interests in things mentioned in those unique posts will inevitably visit the forum. In other words, one fool-proof way to get visitors is simply to add new content (make new posts) about interesting subjects, and wait for it to be indexed by search engines (may take 30 days or more on Google). 100 informative posts about World of Warcraft will bring... you got it, visitors interested in World of Warcraft.
The million dollar question is, what is the result of the current Chat Forum - World of Warcraft post ratio of 121863 : 3694?

Nothing other than an encouragement for people unaware of the search engine thread indexing to post more? Perhaps not. Other ideas are more than welcome as well.

This is cool! I like this, we could start a thread and put a bunch of words in it that attract people and then it would show up on google. We could just simply make a thread called "qwerty kiddy sexo sex xxx shaved teen....." But we dont want the whole internet here. Why not just change it to general discussion? We all seem fairly intelagent, rigt? Howabout culture, no thats all gay, um, Im done.

Well.. i just thought of an idea.. not sure how it can be done.. but if we can somehow advertise zelaron as a clan hosting forum it might do us some good...
You never know howmany people might like this idea.. especially since a good forum template costs quite a few bucks these days.. im sure it couldnt hurt... but the problem is... how do we get the word out? :o
1. Consolidate forums down to 4 or 5.
2. Make the forums worthwhile so that people actually benifit from using them.
a. general discussion/ interesting links/ news forum
b. creative arts forum (post your music, drawings stories, get critique)
c. a trading post for mmo's/ place to trade NDS wifi-connection codes
d. game/ tech forum
e. off-topic/ bullshit forum
3. Simplify the layout. Why the fuck isn't there a big 'reply' button on the top of each page?
4. Archive the best threads in a separate forum.
Lenny

What's the need? I don't know which skin you're using, but on the one I'm using there's a BIG REPLY BUTTON at the top of each post if you want to zip straight to advanced mode, and a QUICK REPLY button below the post for a fast reply.
It ain't rocket science.

I'm referring to the default skin. Considering everyone starts with it, I think it should be a bit more straightforward/ similar to a standard forum skin.

Your standard forum skin doesn't show whose post you replied to. Take something like the IPB forums or whatever, the thread is just one big mass. You can't really tell who replied to who.

How about some kind of publicity stunt? Not publicly of course, but online.
Around the time the DIII demo or whatever it was was leaked, I bet the forums got a lot more activity. Zelaron was certaintly in a lot of articles, and it had the DIII whatever it was.
So yeah, a publicity stunt.

Easy!
Clone old members!

lol ya no shit. I'm gone for a month and when I do try to log on its down. Go figure.
This isn't just a suggestion. This is a proven fact.
GUIDES! The masses like guides.
WoW players... take 10 mins, write a guide on your favorite character. Make it nice and presentable and I gaurentee within 1 week that post will have more hits than any other thread in the WoW section.
DII- Same thing. Ya its effin old, but people still search that shit all the time.
Shit you could write guides for Gunbound and Rakion and they'd get tons of hits. I've seen a few GW character suggestions around, how about some more?

Here's a couple of ideas...
Nostalgia Forum...
Anything Pre-1993. This way, the somewhat younger crowd can join...
or have that into sub-forums for different generations, I.E. 1950-1960, 1961-1970...so on and so forth.
OR
Relationship Advice Forum
Jessifer could be the counselor person, being as she is the only female here...or any female if there are more...since there is a majority of males in the forums, and (sterotype)geeks seem to have a hard time getting girls to notice them or keep a relationship, some peers of the opposite sex could help them out...and a rule could be that if you give advice that would mess up the relationship, it would be an automatic ban....
The only problem with the Relationship one is that it will be awkward, because if we get another female to help, we'd get, like, hundreds of males who need help...
anyways...just a thought...
Lenny
2006-02-26, 05:43 AM
Hundreds of males is better than the slow trickle we get every now and then.
The only problem with the Relationship forum is that Jess would have far too much work to do.
And the Nostalgia forums might bring in loads of really old people. The average age on here seems to be around 17 or 18, do we really want it to be over 30?
