Anybody play or played Magic: The Gathering? I just decided to get back into it after... years, I guess, of not playing. I've got a bid on a big fucking lot of cards on ebay that might hold the next 3 hours until the auction ends.

There is a magic game for computer kinda weird its free and has every card in it and shit you can build killer decks and find people to play via web...don't know if it still is alive a while back i played it =\

I never really got into it myself, though I did find it interesting. I was about 8 when I was first introduced to it. A little too young to actually grasp the concept of it. My brother played it, though. I used to sit and watch him play against his friends. He has a collection of cards worth over $300. He said he'd give it to me for $100.

...I have a swamp card in my nightstand.

Tap three forests, take 7 damage, play a 7/6. Channel-wurm FTW.

But my favorite is the red-green burn. Nothing like mirrariing a dual-target 100 point fireball to take out three rivals at once in a group game.

I never really gave up playing; I just got distracted with other things.

Ya, there are two (maybe 3?) games for the PC. One of them is free. I have it, but the online support went down years ago. You can still play direct connect I think, but there's no support for the game. The other (unless I'm leaving one out) is pay-to-play. You don't pay for the time, but you have to actually buy the virtual cards that you play with. I do not have that one, because I will not pay for virtual property.

There was also a strange RPGish game, IIRC.

As for the current online game, I might consider it, if the cards didn't cost as much as the real thing. I mean, I can understand that for a fun playing environment that there needs to be regulating factors, but a virtual card isn't worth the same as the real thing; the virtual card only lasts as long as service continues, whereas if properly stored, the physical one will last a very long time.

I still have my cards but havn't played in forever. I should probably sell them while they still have value.

As long as they're in decent condition, the value is going up. If you actually want to make money off of them, put them in protective sleves and wait a long ass time before you sell them.

Theoretically, cards of that edition (the older the better) will become more rare due to people losing them (accidentally throwing them away, house fires, etc) or will become more valuable because the good condition ones will become more rare. Thus, yours will be worth more.

I saw an alpha and a beta pack on ebay going for $800+ yesterday.

I always wanted to build a good kobold deck with some green enchantments. It'd be ftw! Kobolds are always hard to come by, though, and I'm not the kind of person to ebay decks or particular cards. Hopefully I'll get 3-4 of each in the big-ass lot I just won.

"worth" is kinda subjective... Did he pay $300 for it? Do the cards, rated through a collector's book, have a value of $300?

Jessifer

Card's he's collected while he played. And yes, through a collectors book.

*Tap 3 green mana, summon -insert monster name-, swing for 2 dmg!*Hah, noob. You don't tap "mana", you tap land for mana. Besides, there aren't any green creatures that don't have summoning sickness. Soooo you couldn't be swinging for 2 dmg. Jesus man. Get your head in the game.

So, he actually meant 3 green mana, to play ICOS, and since you've got 2 cards left in your hand, the target gets +2/+2. THEN, pay 4 mana to splice TtB and summon DsC for 11 trample damage before putting it back in the library to be summoned for future pwning.

Teh pwnt.

I have 350 rare cards and a box of like 20,000 common/uncommon I've been meaning to sell.

I'm certainly not in a position to buy any more right now, but what would you ask for the haul?

There was actually a "strategy gaming club" in my high school where people got together after school and played magic, took field trips to competitions etc. Too bad enrollment into that meant every other student in the entire state found you to be a huge nerd :P.

Psh. Nothing wrong with being a nerd. You've already been branded a nerd anyway, seeing as you're a member of this forum, and post on it. ;)

I have not played in 7 - 8 years. I think I'll probably start playing again once my friend moves closer.

On the magic online game, if you collect all the cards of one of the editions, you can turn it in and wizards of the coast will send you the real cards.

But Jessifer, the only people that know I'm a nerd are IN FACT OTHER NERDS. Lovely how that works out? you don't know meee nanana na naaa naaa

Jessifer

You just admitted you're a nerd, therefore in your logic I know you, and I'm a nerd (which I don't deny).

Nanana na naa naa.

Well, all I'm saying is I am a nerd ...but the guys that played Magic at my old school were ascended SSJ4 nerds with earth destroying nerdliness. Yea, I did a Dragon Ball Z (GT technically I suppose) comparison, so sue me? ;).
