Hey, so my dad and I think he is a victim of attempted identity theft. We keep getting emails from people saying we signed up for stuff that we didn't, and we get emails from hotmail, netzero, yahoo all staring with 'ourlastname'@netzero, etc. Plus, they have my address, my dad's name, and possibly his social security #. And also we keep getting stuff in the mail from PCDI saying we requested information and we keep getting called by them. Just wondering on what to do in this situation.

ever wonder why parents/people tell you to tear up credit card bills,phone/net bills, social security letters etc..

THIS IS WHY! all someone has to do is go through your bin and copy down the info.. people can get yout credit card details and get your money diverted to them. there was something about this on tv only 2 nites ago :O

Actually, the good criminals can get your information even if you tear it up. They take a lot of time piecing it back together.

What you should do is shred it up multiple times multiple ways. Pretty much shred it up and dump it back in the shredder until you have very small pieces let.

*cough*FIRE*cough*

You ain't gonna be able to piece together bits of balckened ashes now, are ya?

That's the beauty of having a pot-bellied stove.

Maybe if you shred them into itty bitty pieces...then burn them? Now that'd fox em!

Yes, than you could always send them into space.

wow, i'm at 61%...

You shouldn't hesitate when you think your/someone you know identity is being stolen. Just do something about it right away. Remember the old saying, "it's better to be wrong than sorry"-?

There's a saying that goes: "It's better to be wrong than sorry"?!

Scenario - American President believes France is harbouring nuclear missiles due to reports from UN and so on. He acts on this information and bombs france to pieces. The Nuclear fallout affects the whole of Europe. As it was, France didn't have nuclear weapons and the President was stupid.

Better to be wrong than sorry? In that case I think that nothing would suffice...stupid analogy. I'll shutup now.

Well, within reason obviously.

BTW, I sat here waiting for you to respond...sad...

Lenny

Within reason, eh? Hmmm...lesse...

Let's say a teacher thinks that a subject will pop up on a really important test. He teaches his class that subject for the next month leading up to the test. It turns out that that subject was not on the paper but something different was.

Oh bolocks...even that's not an example of better wrong than sorry...your go!

Get a really good shredder. We have one, renders things amazingly small. ANd when it's something important, we'll burn the pieces. Good times, and very safe.

But it's France. Nobody would be sorry.

In conclusion, all French people should be shot.

----------

New analogy.

You're taking an exam, someone in your vicinity starts talking. The moderator thinks that it is you and threatens to cancel your paper. You and those sat directly around you manage, after a lot of arguing, to convine the moderator that you weren't talking and so he does not cancel your paper, apologising for accusing you.

Better to be sorry than wrong in that case. Say that was your GCSE's or A-Levels or whatever. If he was wrong and stood by that, cancelling your paper then you'd have all your exams cancelled and would have to sit the whole course again. Being sorry, however, you finish the exams and pass with flying colours.

In that situation it's better to be sorry than wrong.

Howzat?! :p

You forgot to add "ass hole"...

British/Canadian way, since we borrowed the British English spelling.
