View Full Version : Looking for a laptop

I'm looking to buy a cheap ass laptop. It needs to be fast enough to not lock up on me and not take so long opening Firefox or Wordpad that I rip my hair out. Other than that, it just needs to have wireless network capabilities (I've got a card, so... as long as it has a slot).
It's not going to be for gaming. It's just going to be for taking notes in class, forums, and webcomics.
Anybody know where I can get one?

Dell's are generally pretty cheap. I don't know too much about what's cheap and what's not, though. :-\

Since there won't be any gaming, you can go crazy and put Linux on the one you already have. From my experience, most of its filesystems about 4 times faster in hard drive operations than Windows. And they don't need defragging ever.
Non-technical route: For the cheapest laptop possible, check eBay.

There are used computer places here O_o. Maybe you can find one around where you live.

Just so you know, apparently new Dells come with HW keyloggers o_O. I wish I'd saved the link...

You should get a Dell Latitude D800. I play Guild Wars on mine at full details with no heat issues.

Ya, except it's $1000+ and I'm not looking to play games on it...

Aw, and I was so hoping for a free 16F876 if I bought a Dell laptop :p. I use the chips in my job and I'm sure I could have come up with all sorts of interesting things to do with one setup to read my keyboard :haha:.
