View Full Version : Just Had Lunch With the Queen!

Yes, that one. Queen Elizabeth II. On her short tour of our provence, she stopped in my town (The only town she visited), and I was chosen to eat lunch at the Centennial Premiers Luncheon. (2 people from each grade were chosen). The luncheon hosted approximately 650 people in total, with the Queen at the head table.
So, later, the mayor came up to me, telling me that they had received the seating arrangements. He then went on to say that I would be seated at the head table with the Queen, the Premier of Saskatchewan, the mayor of our town and some other dignitaries.
Naturally I was really nervous, but when she came, we started talking alot, and it was very comfortable. She is a very nice lady, down to earth and everything, and we spoke alot... I even made her laugh!
So, that was my day, and if anyone here happened to watch Canadian News, and they saw the Queen have lunch, you probably saw me.
Anyways, it was super fun, and I just thought I should put it on here... since I havn't posted anything in a while..

The Queen is too small...
The Royal Family gets away with everything...
I'm not a Royal Family hater, but they do get on my nerves sometimes...

I'd say the Royal Family is not as bad as the Bush family...
But I don't know what the Bush Family is like...so can't compare...I'm not American...
Then again, you ain't English so you can't compare to the English Royal Family...

Kagom, why would you kill to meet European Royalty??

Because to me, it'd be an enormous event of epic proportions! I've never met any famous people, so to meet someone of that magnitude would just be mind-blowing.
It matters? There's two kinds of people in the world: those who bunch up their toilet paper, and those who fold it.

Really??
Fair enough...
The problem with the Queen is that you've got to address her in the proper Queenie way, else she won't talk to you. And even if you do address her properly, it's rare for her to talk.
Now the Duke of Edinburgh is much more friendly. He comes up to you and speaks to you first...all three times I've 'met' the Queen, he's been the one who has talked to me...and the rest of us there for that matter...

Grade 11.
To Lenny: Yes, it is just proper protocol to address her "Your Majesty", then "Ma'am". She is very friendly, though. I chatted with her quite a bit, and she seemed generally interested in our town, and paticularly our school. She has lots of practice talking with people, though.

Sometimes you can act semi-intelligent and then you post something like this. Thanks D3V!

Semi-intelligent?? Which forum have you been visiting??!
Jamesadin...don'tcha think she's small? She looks far bigger on TV...and then you see her IRL...and she's small...

Does the queen of canada even do anything?
Jamesadin
2005-05-22, 07:34 PM
Well, she is the queen of the Commonwealth, not just Canada... But no, she doesn't do TOO much. By law, she does have supreme power over everyone, but she chooses to let the politicians do their jobs.

The only thing I don't like about the Royal Family is how everyone who lives in England (and possibly Canada and other countries under rule, I'm not sure) is a "subject", not a "citizen". Call me a stereotypical American if you like, but I wouldn't like being referred to as somebody's "subject". And I know the difference is mainly wording in the case of the US vs GB, seeing as how we have similar rights, but it still would get to me.
We watched a video on "Elizabeth R" the other day in British Literature, I thought the whole Hat of State thing was kinda funny.

Why the fuck did they choose you if you can't even spell "province" correctly?
Lenny
2005-05-23, 09:59 AM
As far as I can tell, she does bugger all. All down to our civil wars and Oliver "Ironsides" Cromwell.
Here's a nice fact for you: At the start of his reign King Charles I (Of England) was 5' 4" tall. At the end of his reign he was 4' 8" tall.
Because of the old Royalty being better than God argument, Parliament now runs the country and the Queen does nothing more than...erm...Queen.
Jamesadin
2005-05-23, 10:03 AM
She mostly just goes around, chats with people...sometimes opens up parliament... and you know... cuts ribbons and stuff.
Lenny
2005-05-23, 10:08 AM
SOmetimes opens up Parliament?? Not only sometimes, but all the time. It's an annual thing, was on the TV a week or so back.
She is basically our figurehead...whilst that prick Blair runs the country our Queen goes around talking to people, throwing giant parties...when i was playing with a Scout band a few years ago we got to play at her 75th birthday (something around 75 at least)...pretty fun...that was the second time I met/saw the Queen and nattered with the Duke of Edinburgh...
Nattered? Is that actually a fucking word?
Nattered??
Lenny

Yep. COmpletely and utterly...
