View Full Version : No Outlet

What do you do when you have no outlet for your feelings?
Sometimes... there just doesn't seem to be anywhere to turn. You can't talk to your "real life" friends because, in certain matters, you don't really trust them. You would give them the key to your house. You would give them your bank account numbers and your SS#. You just don't feel comfortable, however, confiding in them about some things. They've told the wrong people before, and that's not what you want to happen.
You can tell your online friends, but what real insight can they offer with such limited knowledge of the situation? For that matter, what help could your actual friends truly provide? They don't know what you go through. They only know of the joyful times when you're with them.
You don't really know what you want. You would love for someone to tell you what to do, for there to be a right course of action to step toward. Not that there's really any action to be done... just feelings to be sorted out. In the end, you're really looking for an outlet, for someone to listen.
I have an online journal, but I've only posted about 3 lines in it since its creation... half a year ago? I have a physical journal, but it's empty. Everyone says it's better to write your thoughts than to type them, but I just can't bring myself to do it. It just seems a waste of time to hand-write anything that could be typed. I have Zelaron, and, while the general populace is receptive and supportive, this really isn't the place for it...
Just the ramblings of a fool in need of sleep...

Well, if it's something very important you need to talk to someone about, then parents couldn't be that bad of a choice. I mean, they may not be able to give you the advice you want, because they're older and looking at the situation from a different perspective, but at least they'll listen. If not parents, and it's extremely serious, talking to a counsellor, (or preacher or someone else you trust) couldn't be that bad either.
Of course you could just let us know what's on your mind too...

Then tell some of the friends that don't know you only for the joyful times but the bad times also?

If it's a really big issue, you can think about seeing a psychiatrist, talk about whatever you want there. Really, people should stop having such a negative view on them, they really can help, and there's nothing to be ashamed of for visiting one.

I always think clearly when I am reading for a long period of time. Getting lost in the scenarios. It relaxes me so incredibly much, and clears my head so I can think about my problems clearly.
Some people fish, some camp, some read, some take craps, some sex, some watch tv, some walk / workout, it just depends on you...
Go 4x4'ing or something.

I normally take walks late at night or just listen to music for a real long time.

Bob, if you've got the funds, start seeing a counselor. It helps a lot more than you might think.

Back when I used to beat people's asses for looking at me cross-eyed, I seeked counseling. It actually did help me out a lot, and I am no longer violent at all. Good idea I didn't think of that.

Nah, I had to see a drug counselor for some time. That man was a complete moron.

Some are. You just need to find a therapist that really clicks with your personality. If you're going to your appointments solely to vent, and your doctor isn't doing anything to try and help you gain some perspective on your issues, then you're seeing the wrong guy.
You don't want a doctor that just babies you and tells you everything will be alright. That's what your mom is for. You go to see a therapist to get an objective, unbiased opinion on your problems. You go to a psychotherapist to learn the relevance, meaning and purpose of the things about yourself that you don't understand. If you find a good doctor, it's possible to learn things about yourself that you never would have dreamed were actually going on internally. That kind of perspective can do an incalculable amount of good to aid in mending your personal issues.

Difference being, you were forced to see the counselor (because you were caught in school, I'm guessing at least). Under those circumstances (which I have been in myself and had the same thoughts), of course it didn't work for you.
Counseling or parents are a great venting mechanism. I've only recently started talking to my parents about my personal life (excluding certain topics of course) and other problems, and they are actually great at hearing me and giving good feedback. I wish I would have known long ago.

You are correct. The thing is, my drug counselor would forget what we talked about in the last session and he'd ask me the same damn question every single time: "If I were to ask you what are the top 3-5 heaviest things weighing on your mind; what would they be?"
Freakin' idiot!

Sometimes parents are good to talk to. But I'd suggest seeing a counsellor. There have been times where I've been totally angry, upet, confused, etc. and the counsellor at school really really helped me. They tend to be some of the most understanding and insightful people.
