I don't see how that's true at all. That theory only works when you're in history class, and the topics pertain to European history or American history before the Civil War. "Black History Month" affects everything. Television, magazines, radio. Black History month suddenly becomes about focusing all media and public attention to "celebrating awareness" of black history. No other race on the planet gets a whole month of that.

Like I've said several times in the past, replace Black History Month with Native American History month. Yeah, we have done horrible things to the african people, the oriental people, and various other immigrant groups. However, each of those groups still has a "motherland" and a culture to return to. They still have current-day evidence of their roots and still have a living, breathing place to gain pride from. What to the native Americans have? Jack shit. They've got shitty reservation land and a culture that has been wiped off the face of the planet. They don't have a culture to go back to. The least we could do is give them a fucking month of our attention.

Agreed. Slavery amongst blacks was the most horrendous instance of that depraved institution, at least from what I've learned. Agreed that other races had it worse, though. At least the blacks aren't in danger of extinction. Still, I'm not going to sit and be thankful for not being exterminated. The right to exist is something that should never even be in question.

On the other hand, there is no possible way that you can blame the white people of today for what their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. Yes, black people were oppressed for hundreds of years, but that excuse isn't an excuse for everything. Yes, because of slavery, I believe we (black people) have been set back, but it's not something to use as an excuse. Most white people of today are pretty nice, decent people. More than likely, almost all of their ancestors at some time or the other owned a black slave. It doesn't make their decendent a bad person. It's only those people who are still bigots that should be beat.

The Jews had it 1000 times worse then black people. they were slaves for the Nazi's and if they didnt do thier jobs well enough or got sick then they were killed on the spot. I for one have not heard of any cases where a White man killed a slave just becuase he didnt get his job done well enough. Slave owners generally treated slaves with bearable conditions for the simple reason that the slave owner paid money for the slave so therefore he had value. i mean you dont just go kill all of your workers for no apparent reason when you had to make an investment into them to begin with.

There is a distinct difference between the Nazi enslavement of Jews, and the American (North/South America) enslavement of blacks. Now, not to say that the Jews didn't have it bad, but I do believe that blacks had it worse. Just reading about the triangle trade is excruciating. Millions of blacks were shipped across the Atlantic in unbearale conditions. They were then sold off to people who whipped them, and there are cases that I've heard of where blacks were killed. I don't think those are bearable conditions. I could go really deep into this, but I don't feel like it. I'm not saying that Jews didn't have it bad, but Africans had it just as bad at least, over a much longer period of time.

Okay, so far I haven't really been too serious with my posts in here. I've just been posting to post. I'm actually going to reply to this topic in all seriousness, now. This is going to be blunt, but please don't be offended by it. If it comes off as offensive, that's not the intention, I'm just trying to say why I believe that we do have black history month and not a white history month and a Native American history month.

The fact of the matter is, we don't need a Native American history month, or a white history month. Like I said before, this will be blunt, but don't be offended. The truth is, many minorities hate white people. It's sad, and may not be right, but it's the truth. Now, which minority in America do you think hates white people more than anyone? The answer is obvious. Blacks.

Now, we all know that the government is run by mostly white people. Blacks obviously don't like that fact. Blacks are also currently the largest minority group in America. That fact doesn't pose well for the government. The greatest political mind in the history of mankind said (translated, of course) "A prince ought to be either feared or loved, if he can not be both." Well, by the very nature of our constitution, the people of this country can not be governed solely through fear, thus America must adjust accordingly. I believe that America introduced black history month to get some of the blacks on their side, nothing more, nothing less. It was more politics than who deserves what. So, in a way, there was a need for black history month, not out of morality or as retribution, but as politics.

So why not a Native American history month? Well, the population of Native Americans is so insignificant that they pose no real threat. They are easy to be overlooked because their voices just aren't loud enough. What about the Mexicans? Well, a lot of the Mexicans are crossing the border just to be here. Mexicans won't have any problems with the U.S. government as long as they are allowed to be here. White people, for the most part, have nothing against our government, and thus we don't need anything like a white-history month to please them. Plus, I don't think a white-history month would please white people unless it was under a colored government.

But we know that black history month is old and outdated correct? Wrong! If black history month were done away with it would cause an outcry in the black community where many of the ignorant blacks would simply claim that the government was going back to a policy of racism. When it comes to strong issues such as racism, many people, especially black I've noticed, don't want to hear reason. Unprecedented riots would be inevitable.

That's why I believe we have black history month. Whether or not it worked out that way, I don't know, but that's what I believe was the original intention of the introduction of black history month.
