View Full Version : Who do you believe in?

Very open ended question. Who do you believe in, and why? I don't care what you say, whether it be a supernatural deity, or a human, or even something else, just who do you believe in and why?

Well, I haven't had any real responses yet, but I'll throw in my own. I have a few people:
My parents: They're there for me no matter what. Basically, I've grown up believing what they say. It would be impossible for me not to have faith in them. The day I lose faith in my parents is the day that I will most probably lose hope in everything.
My sister: Probably the best sister anyone could ask for. She does just about anything I ask her. She'd probably follow me to hell and back. I would trust her with anything.
Timmay1113: My best friend for 8 or 9 years. We lived across the street from each other for a long time, and in that time I got to know him pretty well. We'd play basketball, kickball, hide-and-seek, baseball almost every day with the other kids on the street. While they all moved away, Tim stayed, and so did I for a long time. In the time where it was just us two kids on the street I got to know him better than anyone I know outside family. I would trust this guy with my million-dollar lottery ticket, life, wife, whatever.
Tupac Shakur: This man's records are like the bible for me (and yes, this thread was inspired by one of his songs -- Slim posted it a little while back). I don't know why, but his music is so inspirational to me, and I take almost everything he says to heart, whether it be literally or metaphorically.
Niccolo Machiavelli: The greatest political phillosopher of all time. I read The Prince and I was hooked. I actually read The Prince just like that because I heard about Machiavelli in a Tupac song (actually many songs), but once I read it, I was like, "Goddamn. This man knows what He's talking about."
My Uncle: Guy lives in Austin. Very smart man. If anything ever happend to both my parents, he's the guy I would turn to.
What do you mean, you like Miachiavelli?! It's only because you're black and feel the need to oppress, as your kind has done to whites for hundreds of years by pestering us with your presence.

I never said I liked Machiavelli, only that I believed in his philosophy. Plus, his books aren't about opressing people.
You can't even spell oppressing, trashbag.

Way to kill a perfectly good thread Grav, by making one of your very common (these days) dumbass remarks on something you don't even know about.
Machiavelli was a Genius. I also read The Prince and loved it.
I belive in my own conscience, it is the only thing keeping me from going on a murderous rampage to kill everything on this festering hell hole of a planet.
It's just that you wish you were black, KA.

I don't think I believe in anything.
As far as I'm concerned, a supernatural being can't exist, so I don't believe in one.
All of the people I would even think about believing in were killed horribly.
I can't even believe in myself (that much) because I am so screwed up, espesh in my mind. I'm not right.
----------
I'd probably end up believing in a Philosopher from some time long ago.
Or Monty Python (listen to the song...)...if I can ever get it on.
Bear with me...I'll probably put it in a later post.

I believe in myself. I'm not going to get help unless I ask for it, I'm not going to accomplish anything unless I think for myself, and when something goes wrong it's nobody's fault but mine.
But my idols are:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Ludwig van Beethoven
John Winston Lennon
Leonardo da Vinci
Napoleon Bonaparte
Franz Schubert
William Shakespeare
J. R. R. Tolkien
Lorenzo Medici
Benjamin Franklin
Michelangelo Buonarroti
Thomas Jefferson
Octavian Augustus
Adolf Hitler (the Chancellor)

He was the most popular elected leader of all time and made the German economy take off like a rocket. Money in Hitler's Germany was not based on gold but on the capacity of the German people to produce goods. Hitler backed the anti-smoking and discouraged alcohol abuse, saw Christianity as a rebellion against natural law, outlawed Vivisection, had German doctors warn people of the ill effects of artificial food colorants and preservatives in food and drinks, and stressed the need for a return to "organic" or natural ingredients in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fertilizers and foods, created many workers' rights organizations such as Labor Unions and the Hitler Youth, and designed internal policies and economic reforms which would have helped the world greatly.

Why not just tattoo "ART FAG" on your forehead and be done with it? We all know your hero is Howie Mandel.
You should ask Raz where he got his done, NGM. I haven't seen a forearm quite as intimidating as one sporting "www.scatchat.com"

He could just ask you. Didn't you get the Golden Arches tattooed on your ass at the same place?
So I do advertising. It's just extra revenue.

That was a pretty good list of cool historical figures... but I don't understand how some of those people can be on the same list of idols. Well I understand... but it's still not very logical. But to each his own or something gay like that.

I put my faith in Buddha. Buddism respects all other religions and it is more of a way of life than a religion itself. It is too much to get into (info wise) right now, but Buddism is a very strong 'religion' imo.

Why should your religion require you to give some sort of validation to other religions that say completely different things than itself?
The only thing I really believe in anymore is existentialism.

It just respects other religions, doesn't mean it agree's with them. It says to respect there holiday and ways, nothing about them being 'right'.

I believe in God. I just take into consideration all the good and beauty of the world and think that it's too supernatural a charm to not be the product of a divine being.

Newsflash: You're bi, and in God's eyes, that's wrong. GG.
That said, I also believe in God. Some of the stuff I saw happen at a church camp a while back only supports my views and beliefs about Him.

I honestly don't think God cares what your sexuality is as long as you praise Him and worship Him with love. I try to follow Jesus' teachings and example, and in the end, I think that matters more.

I love how people think that any supernatual being with the name "God"(which isn't even his name, in christianity) is a christian God.
These are the names of the christian God.
El Elyon - Most High God
El Shaddai - God Almighty
Yahweh - Always present
Elohim - God the Creator
Jehovah Jireh - God my Provider
Jehovah Shalom - God of Peace
Jehovah Sabaotth - God of Spiritual Help
Jehovah Rapha - God my Healer
Oh yeah, and maybe you don't remember that little incident with Sodom and Gomorrah.

I actually believe in god and big bang theory I believe god created the small microorganisms the imploded and the creatures on earth. He planned it all out you see.
!King_Amazon!

Well I believe that an unknown supreme being started the big bang. As to where the supreme being came from I can't explain, nobody can.
The micro organisms were formed by the methane ammonium and water vapor that were on earth, which have the right ingredients for life(some guy actually did an expirement and created organisms with these three things.)
The micro organisms respired, putting o2 out, which was broken down into o1s by UV rays. The o1s grabbed onto either other o1s(creating o2s or oxygen) or onto o2s(creating o3 or ozone) which formed the ozone layer, allowing the organisms to be protected from the rays, over time minor mutations (very minor things, like DNA stuff switching around) created separate species.

It's in the Bible.
