View Full Version : 43 Days Until I Get My License Back...

On September 11, 2004 I can officially drive again, although that day is a Saturday, and the DMV isn't open on the weekends, which actually means, not 43 days, but 45 days until I get my actual license back and can drive again legally.

Honestly, it might not sound like that big of a deal for some of the members here, since you might not even have your damn license yet, but at the age of 22, not being able to drive is one of the biggest inconveniences you can encounter. It literally affects everything. Not so much in Philly, since most of the things I need in my daily life are within walking distance, but when I go home in NJ, life sucks.. If I want to get my haircut, I need to find a ride. If I want to go to the bank, I need to find a ride. If I want to get home, I need to find a ride from Philly or from the trainstation. I've walked home from the trainstation more times than I can remember because of not being able to get a ride, and that walk sucks.. It is at least 6 miles, and takes me a little over 2 hours..

Now, I have plenty of friends that are more than willing to be my ride to these places, but everyone has their limits, and I don't want to push any of them to that point. I haven't driven more than 5 feet over the last 10 and a half months, and that is a feat in itself.

This has also affected my personl life. I've lost a girlfriend over this, since it was a long distance relationship. Finding dates isn't exactly easy either. I mean seriously, my confidence has been shit lately. What guy meets a chick and asks them out on a date, but doesn't have transportation to go anywhere? "Hey baby, I don't have a car, since I lost my license getting a DUI a year ago, but do you wanna either walk somewhere or pick me up and go out to grab a drink sometime?" That shit just doesn't fucking float, at least not in my book.

I was seeing someone for a few months just recently, and she was more than willing to drive everywhere, which was great, but I just didn't see anything past a few sexual nights a week after drinking.. So I had to break that off, since she was getting way too attached and I did not feel the same way about her..

This might seem random to you people, but I just needed to write some shit down and get it off my chest. All my friends from NJ are calling me up, telling me about a party and watching the Tyson fight tonight, but I'm stuck in Philly, and all my roommates are out for the night with their girlfriend's. I guess I'm just really looking forward to driving again, so I can find myself a nice chick and settle down a little. I don't know..

Whatever, that's my rant..

Heh, no maybe. Definitely. I've settled down so much since then and I feel like a fucking preacher with the way I talk to some of my friends about drinking and driving. No doubt it was my own fault, but I did get screwed in court. Normally, it's a 6 month loss of license for first time, not 1 year.

Well atleast you give out live example to the young people here, don't drink and drive at the same time!

Oh, I take cabs, trains, etc. everywhere in Philly, but once you get into Jersey from the PATCO line, your transportation methods are next to nothing if you don't have a friend to pick you up. My parents have been great through this whole thing, but they go down the shore every weekend, so that ride is out of the question..

Yeah....drink, then drive...trying to do both at the same time is distracting. ;)

When they say you can't afford to drink and drive, they fucking mean it.. Costs are over $7,000 already.. I haven't even factored in my insurance hike, because I don't know what it's going to be.

I've had to a couple times, but most of the time I've just gave a friend my keys and had them drive. I know a few people that have had DUI's and it's a real bitch.

I was so stupid in the past, that I just hope my will power is strong enough to be more responsible once I do get my license back. I'm next to sure I will be fine, but 100% of the time will be interesting. I like to think I'm better than what I think though.

0.18 %

Legal limit was 0.1%, but recently it was lowered to 0.08%.

Well sorry to hear that you couldn't drive for that long. It most suck, but you have prolly learned and won't drink and drive again.

It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.

I was alone, on suicide watch, which I laughed in their faces at, 5 minutes before I blacked out... :(

They made me take off my shoe laces, fuckers. I hate putting them back on..

Slim

They fucking put you on SUICIDE WATCH?!

Sovereign
2004-07-30, 09:31 PM
ROFL. wth? Just cause you have a .18 alchohol level doesnt make you suicidal. Stupid Feds. You were probably to fucked up to even take the shoelaces off to hang yourself, even if you wanted too.

Yeah, it's protocol for most offenses. The highest suicide rate is the hours right after an arrest, when the criminal begins to contemplate the ramifications of the offense, but in my case, I was just pissed I got caught.. :(

I was worried about my Dad a little, since this isn't the first or even second time I was arrested, and those other times he took it hard, and he took it out on me hard. He was surprisingly understanding and supportive. :)

Oof. Brutal, Titus. The closest I ever came to that experience was getting caught with an expired license plate, an expired driver's license and I had forgotten to put my insurance card in the car to boot. Heh, but I managed to walk away with a $30 fine instead of the $800 ticket I was given originally.

Slim
2004-07-30, 10:57 PM
How? Did you flash the cop? :weird:

Sovereign
2004-07-30, 10:59 PM
800.. shit. Where I live its a 75 dollar ticket for each of those. Either that or 95 each.

Raziel

No, the cop that pulled me over was actually really cool about it and intentionally gave me a really lenient judge. When I went to court for it, I explained why I had been driving with an expired license (actually, I was fucking lucky because that was the day I was heading out to the DMV to get it renewed) and he asked if I had gotten the license renewed since being issued the ticket. I said yes, he tore up the charge. In regards to the insurance ticket, I did have a valid insurance card at the time, I just didn't have it with me when I got pulled over. I showed the card to him, he tore up the charge. The only one left was the expired plate and that was $60. I had gotten it renewed since getting the ticket, though, so I showed him the up-to-date registration and he cut the ticket down to $30. Sweet deal.

Yeah, in this town most parking and traffic offenses exceed $200. The lamest part is the regulations out at the airport. I actually took a look at those tickets, and next to the location section they have ticket amounts. Next to the "airport" column, it's completely blank. If you're parked in the loading area for a minute too long, and the cop that catches you is having a bad day, he can ticket you $2000 for it if he feels like it. It's total bullshit.
