I'm looking to maybe get back into UO. This is in General Con because the MMO forum is mostly inactive and because, well, I want people to see it.
If you have a shard to reccomend, please do so. I would go randomly trying ones down the list on UOG, but that takes forever and usually doesn't yield very good results.
The features I'm looking for are as follows:
1. No (or higher than usual) Skill Cap
2. Reg free casting is optional. I like it, but it's not necessary.
3. Races and/or classes are optional. They're nice sometimes, but not necessary.
4. Teleport stones or gate room is optional. It's helpful.
5. Level system is a big plus, but it's not necessary, as it's hard to find a good server with people on that has a level system (for some reason unknown to me).
6. Must have some people online... If I wanted to play with myself, I'd... well, you know where this is going.
I don't care either way about a custom map.
If you know of a shard to reccomend, please do so. If not, um... don't.

I Haven't played uo is a long time But if you find a good shard I'd be happy to go back. The best shard I've played was penguin's Lod2 and then Bob's World which was pretty much PVP shard, there was a lot of people and factions which was pretty cool when battles broke out.

While that looks good, I have a couple of problems with it.
1) Skill cap is 700. While that's not bad inherently, I like having a raised cap so I can have one character to do my smithing, tailoring, and fighting.
2) Q: Do horses exist?
A: Currently horses do spawn in the wild and are purchaseable from Tamer NPCs. It's impossible to ride them, though.
WTF?

No, no horses. If you need a horse to compete in UO, format your hard drive. It's as simple as that.

It's not about competing... It's about not having to walk/run everywhere.
I don't think I want to play a shard where you have to be on foot all the time. Besides, the skill cap is a pretty important part of my view on a UO server. I'm not looking for OSI... old or new. I've played them both, and I don't much care for it. Old OSI was fun when it was old OSI--back "in tha day". New OSI was never fun.
If I could, I'd go back to Camelot, but the owner shut it down forever ago. It had a ticket system, new land, no skill cap, stat cap was managed by level, macroing allowed, the first level system I'd ever seen (awesome btw), and, of all things, horses. It was an entirely different game. Sure the mechanics were the same, but with there were so many differences that it played like a traditional RPG.
So, before we get all haughty, making claims on PvP on whatever style of UO we're playing, let's inspect motivations first, mmk?

"an nox" and "lands of war" were the only quality fun shards i've ever played. unfortunately, both of those shut down a few years ago.

aww... The good ol' days :(

.....The question they should have put was "Can you ride horses?". Nobody cares if you have horses if you cant ride them. Thats like "Yes we have a wide variety of horses and breeds from real life. There are even groups of wild horses that will roam the lands and respond to the things around them. With over 50 different kinds of horses with unique traits and skills, we have the best horse system in the UO community but they are not rideable"
I've never played on a player-run shard, so I can't help you.

You can download AoS free from somewhere... I don't know what it costs to buy anymore.

It's like 10 bucks. Also, I don't know if this still exists anymore, but try to Acropolis Dark Shard. They used to have a forum here.... but I can't see any hosted forums so I don't know if that shut down.

I found this forum while searching for "lands of war" (trying to find out if he remade it)
That shard was so fucking awsome. =(
When he ended the server I wrote him an email beging him to bring it back and he did for a short period of time..He had to start mostly from scatch so a lot of the main points of the game didn't work well like before..but the reason it failed was becuase no one from before knew it came back..besides me just a bunch of new jacks played.. so the feel of the game was lost.
Even later after that I found out he introduced a revamped version of lands of war But it wasn't that great..it had no tele center and was set in brit mainly. No sunbeams or cool things to fight. He started making some cool animations tho but it still wasn't the same..I think he closed that server as well.
btw my name on lands of war was ZeN, what was yours?
