I have a trackball for my laptop; I never use my touchpad, I never planned to use my touchpad, so as soon as I got my Alienware Area 51m, one of the first things I tried to do was disable the touchpad. Much to my frustration, XP would not allow me to disable the touchpad, and no matter what I did, XP would always reinstall the mouse or somehow it would work without any driver. I soon found that my mouse would reandomly move arround as I used the keyboard from my palm accidentally brushing past it. Finally, today, after dieing on RO (http://ragnarokonline.com) from "accidentally" walking into a monster as I selected a spell to cast one too many times, I had had it. I'm pretty sure I tried everything I tried before and more again with no results, then I tried some searching on Alienware's web site, after about 15 minutes worth of BS hits that ended up saying to disable it in the touchpad software that I had to let intellimouse uninstall to use the button mapping features, I finally found a post that said that Alienware's drivers are way out of date and that if I download the generic drivers from the manufactuer, they would co-exist with Intellipoint, and I could disable it.

OMG, NO MORE FUCKING ANOYING SHIT FROM THE STUPID TOUCHPAD! I'm so happy, I could to a little dance, but I won't.

Believe me, the thought occurred on many occasions, but the rational part of my brain always kicked in to indicate that most likely then I would just have an installed touchpad that produced random motions without *ANY* help from me. Besides, I'm sure that would void the warenty, and from what I've seen, I need it--badly.

I've never been a fan of touchpads. My tablet works similarly, but it offers utmost precision unlike the touchpads for laptops. The 1024 pressure levels are nice, too. And playing Unreal Tournament with it is an outright bad idea, as you can only really walk straight while touching the tablet with its pen when you hold the pen tip in the exact center of the tablet. One inch of movement will cause your character to revolve heavily.

Then you don't have it in mouse mode. A touchpad operates diferently from a tablet, though. You drag your finger across it to move the pointer, tap it to click, double tap it to double click, and tap then drag to drag.
