View Full Version : A look at Unattended Macroing

I was just wondering, Why the hell is unattended macroing allowed? I'm not trying to rant just to be ranting but this kind of throws off the whole balance of the game. I mean think about it..

Why even have a time limit on the theives guild if you can just leave your character on all night?

Why even have murder counts if you can just leave it on all night and lose the counts?

Why not just give us 100 hiding and 100 of all the other skills that hardly take anything to gm if we can just macro them.

I mean, who doesen't like getting free skill points without having to lift a finger, but it's just not true to UO. Being too lazy to enforce it is not an excuse, and I know Majere trys hard to make us all happy but I just dont think this makes any sense.

What does everyone else think?

I GMed several skills unattended on OSI.

Anyways, I've built characters time and time and time again. Ever since 97 in this game. If I want to browse the net or talk to friends or watch TV with my girlfriend, or have sex, instead of pressing buttons over again, I'm going to do that.

Yea I never macroed attended on OSI :-/

I think most ppl play free shards to enjoy not having to look over their shoulder because they have better things to do than work. Keyword: WORK. UO is supposed to be a game. A game is supposed to be fun, not work...

Just because its a game doesent mean you shouldnt have to work for it. If you just got a billion gold at the beggining of the game and gm everything how would that be fun? Thats the point of an RPG, to work for stuff and be proud of yourself when you get it.

You just don't get the same satisfaction gming a character on Acropolis as you do on OSI servers is all i'm saying.

I don't think that is because of my macroing rules, I feel it more because of the speed in which you can GM your skills. Something I have fought with myself about alot.

the macroing rules now i feel rock!! anti macroing is just annoying or attended macroing is just stupid....granted the shard gain extreamly fast it is still working skils....there r certin things u can unattend macro but what about resist or doing dex skills got to be around for those

Rofl. I macroed so much on OSI, but it doesn't even compare to some of my friends. My friend's brothers-in-law (two of them) used to live together, and they played UO all the time. Every time each of them would make a new character, they would macro magery to 100 before doing anything else. (The thieves, smith/carpenter/tailor, alchemist/poisoner/scribe, etc all got GM magery before even putting a point into the skill of trade.) Of course the macroing was not limited to Magery. I've seen Coy macro everything except... except... I suppose I'd have to see a list of skills. I can't think of anything they didn't macro.

Macroing on OSI was so rampant it's not even funny..... Oh wait..

Rofl
I guess it is funny.

Don't spoil my fun. If you don't like it than don't macro it.
You can run around as newbie all day long if that make you happy.

I used to love macroing. I would go to great lengths to unattend macro, script, 8x8, whatever it took to get a great char without having to sit there. When I quit OSI and came to free shards like AT and Acrop I still liked to macro and a part of me still does, however you have to ask yourself one important question. What am i trying to accomplish? are you just trying to build a char to pvp with and you dont want to spend a lot of time? Thats cool there is nothing wrong with that, but maybe you should try a shard where they give you skills and its all guild wars and pvp tourneys. It took me a long time to come around and a lot of thinking one way then arguing for the other side in my head. I love Raist's shard, his old his new I just like it. I love the custom map and how he runs it, but I decided I felt more like working for something and maybe even rp'ing a little than having 10 7xgm's in a few weeks and millions of gold and being bored because you just pvp the same 5 or 6 people all day everyday to accomplish nothing. The shard wasn't what I was interested in so I stopped playing was it anyones fault? no just my personal preference. That is why at the end you saw me asking for better bod rewards and stuff like that because I was growing bored and wanted something worth doing. I finally decided there was no sense in getting mad at Raist because he didn't like my idea and that I got exactly what I whined for on AT all that time. I whined for more chars and macroing to be allowed. Well, I got it didn't I? and see where it got me? I guess its true to be careful what you wish for. OK, this post is way to lengthy and run-onish so I will step back again, but I will again say I wish he would wipe the whole shard limit us to one account per IP and maybe 2-3 char slots and make skill gain extremely hard. Tomorrow is Christmas and since I am finally rdy to say good bye to you all I will be giving away everything I own tomorrow night after I get home from visiting family. I will start at the bank and end up by giving away my tower with all its contents to the person who can tell me what Andrew Quick's nickname was and who killed him. Take care all I know I have always been a smartass and cynical, but I will always love the time I spent on these shards and glad I got to meet you all.

p.s. I want the first and last name of who killed Andrew not just the first name or nickname. Thanks

Oh, and if you are google searching it to try and get the answer I looked through the first few pages and those Andrew's arent who I am speaking of. Only those who know me and paid close attention to my char names will know.
