I am making this thread because the original was very popular. I assume new people don't post in it currently because either they don't notice it (inactivity) or because they don't want to read pages upon pages of thread to post one reply.

While these are not my forums, and I certainly do not own the threads, I would like to place a couple of restrictions on this thread.

If you participated in the old thread, please feel free to vote and discuss here as well. However, please do not simply re-state what has already been said in the old thread.

Those who had no part in the old thread, please voice your opinions. Do not feel obligated to read the old thread (here -- http://www.zelaron.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7771&highlight=bible ), but you may if you so choose. Do realize, however, that if someone asks a question or makes a statement that has been made before, that a link to or quote from the original thread is wholly acceptable material as it is a response directed toward that same idea.

Anyhow, use this thread to voice your opinions and thoughts on the existance of God and on religion in general.

While I was brought up to believe, I am still a little skeptical at times. I guess after going to school for Engineering for 4 years, I've gotten to the point where I need more proof than already exists. I just have a hard time believeing shit that can't be written down on paper and proved through equations and through existing laws of nature.

God seems to break everything we believe to be true in our Physical world, and from everything I've been taught, its just a hard concept to grasp sometimes. The only thing that kept me from voting yes is, well.... faith.

God is just something invented by people who get pwnd really bad. Since they dont have the l337 skillz to pwn the other person back, they rely on instilling the fear of "going to hell" to the other person for their actions.

Example:

"Oh no my son was a dipshit, so he got into a stranger's car, and he got pwnd!!1 We haven't found the guy who did it in 25 years, but rest assured, he's going to hell." - John Walsh

First of all, that's not a quote of John Walsh.

Second, children who are brought up to be religious are taught that God is outside the laws of man. Children often recieve and believe that statement. However, when those same children learn more of the laws of man, they believe less that God can be separate from them.

Why is it that when the laws of man become more complex and rigid through understanding, one would assume that God no longer has power outside of them? You have learned of nothing in physics that disproves the existance of God. They only show man's understanding of it.

Example--The big bang theory: Why is it not feasable that God's chosen method to begin the creation of Earth was a big bang? It is very feasable. Just because man determines how something happens does not mean that there is no divine hand supporting it.

There is no reason for God to explain his methods to man through the Bible or any other form, so the fact that God's actual intricate process of doing things isn't included in the Bible is no just argument.

The only thing that kept me from voting yes is, well.... faith.

I assume you meant no since everyone has voted yes so far.

I have been through some serious shit in my life and sometimes its only faith that has kept me going. I believe.

Bob, you are so incredibly right. I believe... who are we to decide that there wasn't divine influence no things... maybe God just wanted it to be done that way.

Science is ever changing, it is inconsistent. The one thing that you can consinstently count on is faith. And you can quote me on that

Gotta have FAITH!!! Gotta have FAITH!!! GOTTA HAVE...FAITH, GET THE FUCK UP! - Limp Biskit.

Yes, I believe in god, but I think church is a little unecessary, I used to go alot, not as much as I used to, I think it has become corrupted from its old ways.

And yes, god is there, its just too oblivious for us to see, been right in front of us our whole lives......

Let me give you a little inside information about God. God likes to watch. He's a prankster. Think about it. He gives man INSTINCTS! He gives you this extraordinary gift, and then what does He do, I swear for His own amusement, his own private, cosmic gag reel, He sets the rules in opposition. It's the goof of all time. Look but don't touch. Touch, but don't taste! Taste, don't swallow. Ahaha! And when you're jumpin' from one foot to the next, what is he doing? He's laughin' His sick, fuckin' ass off. He's a tight-ass! He's a sadist! He's an absentee landlord. Worship THAT? NEVER!

I have no clue either way. I was brought up southern baptist, and actually studied a few different religions, but I have yet to come to a conclusion.

I HOPE that there is a God. It seems like life would be an awful waste if not. Yet, I am not convinced. So I vote Unsure.

I still think I'm right. And of course its not a direct quote from John Walsh, I'm just satirizing stupid kids. Because they suck.

I don't believe in god for many many previously stated reasons in the old thread. It's just not something that I believe in. Don't want to elaborate on it more than that.

Wow, a new remix of my thread I made back in the day. This has never happened to me before. Haha. Anyways, thanks bob for making a new one.

Anyways, yes, I do believe in God. But you know what I find crazy? I am sure God would like us to lead normal, very good lives, and not be thumpers like some are. I mean, spread the word around, but dont make athiests, or people of other religions feel like shit.

Yes I do. Somethings can't be proven by Science and even if they tell me a hundred times that God and Heaven aren't real, I will still believe.

well shinto what about other religions? if they dont have a god then what happens to them? that wouldnt be fair and i am gonna vote unsure because i am really unsure if there is a God or not

Oh god is a phrase...which i have used my whole life and i don't plan to stop using it. I dont literally mean Oh god, just used as a phrase...same thing as goddamn it. When u say that r u really damning something? And i dont chose not 2 believe. Believe me if it was my choice id be religious simply cause life'd be easier for me. It's not a choice i make to not believe...i just cant w/o proof. Faith in something that I have never ever been acquainted with is pointless 2 me...no offense 2 ne1 whatsoever but thats how i see it. Those of you who claim to have met god or seen god or seen him work his miracles good 4 u...im happy 4 u...i wish i could do the same thing. There was a time when i really really tried 2 believe in god. I would pray and crap...but then i was like this is pretty foolish because to me there is no proof in the world that god exists. It would be like me praying 2 zordon from the power rangers or something...its all the same 2 me. Only difference between the 2 is a lot more ppl believe in god...lol...but not 1 person that believes including my parents has convinced me there is a god.

that analogy doesnt quite work. Ok...tell some1 that thinks ur ugly...tell them 2 just think ur hot and that you'll give them a 100 bucks if they do. They might say ur hot but do they actually think it...no...

but that analogy doesnt quite fit

I can't personally mindlessly follow something I don't believe in, Shinto. Now sayinig this, let me explain that I don't mean everyone who believes is mindless, I'm just stating that I cannot follow something that I don't know, or at least feel a true feeling about. I do wish to know, I just don't yet.

I believe a little bit.

That statement doesn't make a ton of sense. That's like saying "I belive in God's foot. Only his foot."
