My dad recently got a new computer with XP. I decided i'd upgrade my windows 98 to xp...newayz that was a month ago and now it needs me 2 activate windows. I want 2 know if it's illegal if i activated 2 copies of one windows cd if both computers are owned by my dad?

Who cares. Microsoft has moer then enough money. If it didnt ask you to put in some sort of cd key or something, i dotn see how microsoft can track it too see if there are 2 copies circulating, but i dont know. Im not that good with computers.

oh fuck it. YOur dad paid for the original windows on his new computer. Read the instruc manual or something. If it says nothing about copying it into another computer owned by that person, then i think its fine. Just read the fine print.

Just for clarification, here's the situation.

If you have Windows installed on one computer and want to install it on another with the same liscense (cd-key or cd) you have to uninstall it on the first. You are allowed to have only one installation at a time per copy of Windows you purchase.

Also (though I've never seen it) if you register an already-registered copy of XP on one computer, the install on the previous computer will cease to work. I've never had any reason to doubt it, but if you don't connect the old computer to the internet, I don't see how they can deactivate the install.

Also, if you don't register, and you reboot when your free time is up, Windows will not start.

It's not a matter if it's illegal or not, it's that it won't let you. The only way it works if it's like a college bought xp that comes with like 200 licenses for 1 cd key... like what K_A has...

Yeah eddie is right.

You can't register 2 cd keys ... plain and simple.

I never registered I just activated windows with the same activation key (which is illegal). It is illegal, but most likely nothing will ever happen to you.

I'd give you one but your gay so no SOUP FOR YOU mjackson2nd.

Or just use Win2k, it's like a non-bloated non-AOL xp...
