Apparently, according to my friend who had his PS2 standing on its side, it was designed so you could put it both ways. I had heard rumors but no proof. Now I want to find out how many of you actually have it on its side.

Duh, they even made a stand to do it. Did you ever wonder why the CD tray has slots on one side? It's so the CD doesn't fall out when you put it in while the PS2 is on it's side.

Kthxbye.

And no I don't.

Yes, I have a stand as well.

I've been told that standing it on its side without the stand can damage the lens.

If you have it on the side, make sure it's perfectly level or you'll wear out the lens.

Standing PS2 vertically is bad for it however. After extended playing, it can damage the reader in the PS2.

I don't know why anyone would want to anyway...

actually, sooner or late you will have to but it in its side (at least thats how it works with the older ones) my buddy had it flat for some time, then for some reason it couldnt even recognize it and it said insert disk, or no disk. And then some relative suggest to flip it over (just like the original playstation) and it works

this is how it is;
first it is either flat an or to the side
then it would be ...the opposite; if it was flat then go to the side , if to the side, then make it flat.
then if it STILL doent work, flip it backwards 9we are not on this stage yet, but i believe we will soon go there

its weird but thats how to maximize the usage of that darn thing

Woah... I just realized that the whole tiem I was looking at this I registered "on it's side" as being horizontal... mine is vertical and I think of that as the right way to do it since it makes PS1 game work better.

"PS2" and "Tough" dont go together.

That's certainly true, only company that makes "Tough" consoles/platforms is nintendo. Seriously, have you EVER seen a platform more durable then a freaking gameboy? You know, one of those old ones. You could drop those 20 feet, then roll them across the road and they work fine. I heard someone rolled their Gamecube down the highway, all it ended up with was a few cracks and alot of scratches, but it still ran games like any other one did. I think the handle snapped off the back though, not sure.

My ps2 is horizontal because it's collecting dust.

My ps2 is horizontal because it's collecting dust. but it STILL would collect dust on the top! is that when you put it back in its side again?? good point !!!!!!!!!11

No, because there actually is no point unless you wanna save room. It does more harm than help.

Mine is upside down, I like it to scratch the discs to hell when it drops them, yep, I do'es'.

And the fact that it damages the disk is more then enough reason to NEVER USE THE STAND.

Sum thimes it wont read wdisks when it is the normal way so i just stand it up and after it loads to the menu screen i set it back down and it works, so that is the on;y time i stand it on its side.

Whenever my PS2 would start giving me trouble with reading DVDs/Some Games, it was just a simple matter of dust collecting on the laser lens. You just have to open up the PS2 and clean the laser lense off with a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol on it. It is a common PS2 problem.

I heard that if you do have it standing up that you are supposed to flip the little PS2 symbol on the disc tray to the proper angle otherwise it will not read all discs correctly. Probably just a rumour but something to try none the less.

My friend has his standing up, and now his Vice City(only game he really plays) dosent work, could that be the reason?

Or just buy a wet laser lens cleaner. They work well.

I heard that the old ps2's can only read the blue disks cause my cousin has the old like when it came out and another one that his sister got cause she always hogs the video game systems. And the new one can read all of the disks.

Hey its only what I heard that the ps2 dvd chip messes up when it gets old and only reads blue disks because the others have dvd chips in them.
