K an awesome thing all u people should do is assign hotkeys! i dont know howmany people there are who dont assign hotkeys to their buildings and men but omfg is it ever useful! u can go from ur factories to a battle in less than a quarter second.. heres how i do it

Beginning of game:
1 = Command center
2 = Scouting SCV
3 = Building SCV, Vultures
4 = Building SCV, Tanks

Middle Game
1 = Command Center - Comsat
2 = Biggest army
3 = Minor (harrassement army) and Dropships
4-8 = Factories (i have more than 4 factories usually)
9-0 = Comsat

End game
1-4 Comsat (sometimes)
3 = Big army
4 = Minor army (dropships)
5-0 Factories

*If you dont know how to assign hotkeys press CTRL + # on selected units to see

In the beginning of the game (i usually play protoss), i assign my scout the 0 button. As i go alone i just make up hotkeys for all. I have no set designation for hotkeys but usually, the lower numbers are reserved for melee units.

Hey, mania, you migth wana read this (aka ZZangDreamP)
Hotkeying is quite a hard thing to do. Ive seen ur replay mania, you lack hotkeys, like any brood war players. I would say about only 300 players, top, use hotkeys correctly, and do about 20/50% of those. Either way its prety hard. the thing is, hotkey is the key of getting high apm = high reaction time. Now, Do not, I repeat do not assign a hotkey for 1 specific building, that is bad, if u ever change race, ur either screwed or gota relearn all ur hotkeys. Its pretty simple what you should do.
heres my way.
1:building
2:unit
3:building
4:unit
5:building
6:unit
7:building
8: either unit or expo
9: expo
10: expo.

Usualy, when im protoss, i use 3 for my nexus, 1 for pylon then gateway, 2 for scouting probe, and it never goes idle -.- as you know, 4 for any units like my goonz or zeal, if my probe isnt dead, 5 for my robotik and so on the thing is, the important part of this is that you dont assign useless hotkeys. lets say u have 2 gates, they should be around same spot so that you hotkey just 1 double type the hotkey so the screen goes there, and select the 2 gate to bulid the unit(with the hotkey button of course(building unit that is)) then you just go back to where ur microing, this shouldnt take more then a split second.

when im zerg, i just take 1 for hatch.
So basicly its simple, you just gota put simlilaraties through ur hotkeys, but never assign a building aka for me its just 1 for buliding any kind of unit and 3 for buildings that make scv/probe -.- wait thats called a cc and a nexus. Well thats about all there is to say about hotkeys. Oh yeah, when you have 20% hotkeys, if your good, you should have over 160 apm. I got about 180 w/ 25% Any how, do not do useless click during game to higher ur apm. that is extremly dumb, and it will disimprove your gaming skillz.

the games im really not tired in I use the hotkeys cuz it still isnt a consistant habit, when i do it is usually like that, I found a new way of hotkeying tho, every set of buildings, example, if i have 3 factories in 1 base and 2 in another i would only hotkey 1 of the factories in each base so i can quickly move there and choose my units quickly so i have more hotkey room

Insolence, dont take this personal.

Ok listen, if you ever want to be good at starcraft brood war you need to learn to play with hotkeys, the point of hotkeying is that you can have ALOT FASTER REACTION TIME. the difference is amazing. I have maybe 15/25% hotkeys in games, well i try to. And im an ok player, but if you look at progamers they all have over 45% and some over 50/60%. Basicly its theyre key for having high apm/reaction time and nice gaming. You should learn to play with only hotkeys. A trick to learn theym, its pretty hard, but its nada's words :). You just need to stop using minimap Never ever click on minimap
Only hotkey ur units and use it to move, and also use space bar alot, and your gaming style is gona get alot better. Of course at first its prety hard, but its going to get easyer as you play.

Hmm, I use 1 + 2 for my Comsat Stations, since by the time my finger extends that extra distance to the 0 button, the DTs or lurkers just slaughter half my marines. (Since my right hand is on my mouse!) Later on, I put 0 and downwards as nuke silos and the remaining hotkeys go to important teams (BCs, Tanks). My marines, nah, I do the usual box and send them, with the hotkeyed and carefully micro'ed important teams for support.
