errr Ok, how do you reformat new window? you just reboot with the cd? also how do you save the files you want?
If you don't have a good idea of what is involved, I would say stop right now, and either get someone you trust who is good with computers to come help you with it, or take it in.
The saving files you want part is pretty simple though, just burn everything you need to CDs, or if your like me and have multiple hard drives you can use one for storing data and stuff on, so when you do need to reinstall windows you don't have to worry.
As for the actual process of re-formatting and installing windows, well, it varies depending on what version of Windows you have. Some windows CDs are bootable, some aren't, so you need a boot disk that loads a CD-ROM driver.
After you go through the install you have to install drivers for all of yoru hardware, download all the windowsupdates and virus updates and such things.
I'm actually making it sound too easy though. Although I guess it is rather easy.... but it isn't something you should try to do if your not sure.
If your wanting to format your hd, you can boot up your computer from your XP Cd, and it will give you the options there.
And yeah, you should burn all of the stuff you want, or fat32 on a different hd.

He said "new window" so I'm assuming XP.
Well, you don't need windows to format a hd, just the cd.

What does that statement mean...?
You need a windows cd if you have windows installed...
Otherwise, you don't need shit but a keyboard.
No what I'm saying is you can have a blank ass hard drive and format it without windows being on it.
It'll recognize it as soon as you start it up and do the work for you.

What does that have to do with anything?
He asked how to reformat. Note, he asked how to reformat.
And... you can format a hard drive regardless of what is on it. Windows has nothing to do with it.
Also, nothing formats a hard drive for you. Either you have a windows CD in that has it in the boot process and you click next for it, or you enter dos mode and use a format executable to do it.
Note: He asked if you can use the CD.
Note: He wanted to know what to do with the files you want to save.
Note: SQRL Told him to burn the shit he wants to save to a CD.
Note: I told him he could use the CD to format his HD.
Note: You don't know the DOS 'executable commands' to format the HD.
Note: Ganga has his soulution, please close the thread.

The thing is, he didn't ask whether or not you needed Windows to format. Nobody has ever asked that I don't think.
Also, I didn't say DOS 'executable commands.' I said to use a format executable.
As in using....... format.exe
By typing format.exe c:

Actually, all you have to do in dos is type format c: I believe.
Hehe, indeed KA. Especially since it's format is a .com and not a .exe ^_^
