changing permissions with php files

IM currently uploading and installing a file manager and I need to know if there is some other way then through FTP to change the permissions. My host doesnt have ftp yet, there working on it though.

I don't think so, what other ways could you use, your only going to be able to use FTP, right?

I know you can use PHP or other serverside scripts to do it... I don't remember how... But I know you can, I'll try to see if I can look it up. And D3V... Would you please read the damn post before you respond, this isn't the chat room.
