I got my ps2 last Christmas, and now its broken. I went to a couple of sites and I noticed that I wasnt the only 1 with problems with my ps2. And almost all ppl have the same problems, the white cog that u have to adjust and the lens thats dirty. I've sorta managed to repair it and can play games again, except for my favorite GTA: vice city :(. Damn Sony really needs to improve the durability of they're systems, any of u ppl got sort of the same problems?

i got my ps2 about 2 years ago if i remember correctly. Mine doesnt have any problems at all, but it maybe due to the fact that i dont use it much and its primary use right now is as a dvd player.

Bring it into the nearest Sony store. They should be able to repair it for a small fee (costs about $30 Cdn, so it should be around $20 there)

Or do it yourself for free, I had this problem and cleaned my lense eye with the directions at www.gamefaqs.com and now it works perfect. I just recomment not watching DVDs in it, since they screw it up.

I don't see how watching DVDs would screw it up any more than playing a DVD-ROM game which is any PS2 game.

I'm just going by what people tell me, and everyone says it's the DVDs that screw up the PS2s.

I've already cleaned the lens and everything, its only having problems with vice city :( maybe because that game really needs almost if not full ps2 power ?

When I bring it in for repair it's gonna cost me more then I want to pay because there are things that have higher priority, and before all that is paid, ps3 has probably been released :P

U could actually be right about the DVD thing because now I think of it, it didnt start acting fucked until after I played some DVD's, hmm who knows maybe thats it. It also depends on what version ps2 u got, they all seem to act differently.

Well... if you got a warranty you can just trade it in for a new one. My friend had a warranty on his but he sold it to his other friend. So we took my broken one (I bought a new one earlier and kept the broken one) and used his warranty to get a new one plus $130 cash because the prices had gone down since they bought the first one.
OWNED.

lol nice job ;)

well I dont have a warranty anymore... When I wanted to clean the lens and adjust the white cog in the back I had to open it and the warranty seal broke, so no chance of getting another 1 :(

Have you checked to see if your CD has any scratches or finger print marks on it?

no, no scratches or anything like that. My ps2 seems to make sort of a scratching and ticking noise continuesly when playing vice city, as if its getting to much and cant handle it any more.

Your wattage or whatever is probably off then. I'll find the FAQ for it and see what I can do to help.

its those damn blueish purple discs. they cause more problems to the ps2 than a sledgehammer.

EDIT: undeadguy, see my thread about DRE's above. Could fix your problem.
