View Full Version : The sheer, hysterical irony of it all.

So, over a year ago, Rareware and Nintendo sadly parted ways. Nintendo sold the tremendous amount of stock they had in the company, and Rare became a third-party developer...for about 30 seconds. Microsoft quickly bought the team out, making them their wholly owned subsidiary, never to produce games for anyone but them ever again.

So, we skip forward to the present. Rare has yet to produce anything for M$, and has basically spent the last 16 months or so twiddling their thumbs and picking their wedgies. The last game Rareware even produced was Starfox Adventures, for the Gamecube.

So, does anyone else find it fucking hysterical that their first game in over a year is for a Nintendo console? Well, a Nintendo handheld technically, the Gameboy Advance specifically. Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge was released yesterday, and to rather positive feedback. The game takes the mechanics, graphical presentation and atmospere of the previous two games and converts it into a 2D (3/4 view) platformer that apparently is a damn near perfect representation of the Banjo-Kazooie continuity in a largely different perspective. Way to go Rare!

They've made some really great Gamecube games, actually. F-Zero GX, Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2, Skies of Arcadia Legends. All awesome games, all made by Sega.

I still have a dreamcast. Kept it for Skies of Arcadia and Soul Calibur

Rare is working on three game right now for the XBox due out this year and early-mid next:
Kameo: Elements of Power due out December 1st.
Conker: Live and Uncut with a release date TBA in 2004.
Grabbed by the Goulies due three days before Halloween on the 28th.
Go to www.rareware.com for more information

I hope this thing falls apart because I don't want to have to buy Microsoft consoles in the furture to play Rareware game which arre almost always totally awesome.

Kameo was a low grade game If i remember, in the speculative reviews. Grabbed by the goulies got previewed and it looks like it *sucks* horribly (150% kiddy game, embarrasing for rareware, far worse then *anything* childlike they ever made for nintendo). And cant say I can say much about conker either, I think its supposed to be a remake of the one made for n64.

It's making me hope that the creative minds that made rareware good with nintendo have left them.

I think it's funny that Grabbed by the Ghoulies would be a huge kid game because in Australia, ghoulies is balls.

Conker is the only Rare game that I'm honestly pissed is an XBox exclusive. Banjo-Kazooie obviously isn't an exclusive, and games like Jet Force Gemini and Donkey Kong aren't going to be popping up on the AssBox. I just think it's hysterical that M$ spent all that money buying out Rare, and over a year later they have nothing to show for it.

Umm, the new Conker is an online only deathmatch game. I'm not really impressed.

Is it?! Ha! Haha!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Way to not do anything correctly without Nintendo holding your hand, Rare!

no its not an online only game. It has singleplayer as well, but its the same singleplayer as in conkers bad fur day for the n64, only difference is that this version has better graphics and some extra content that couldnt make it in the n64 game.

That's pretty damned lame. What are they gonna do, uncensor the "fucks" and add a few more dick jokes? Wow, edgy.

I'm goddamn excited about Live and Uncut. It's going to be Unreal Championship, only Conker-style. :)
