A free version of Softimage XSI ( used by Valve for Half-Life 2 ) is available at http://www.softimage.com/products/exp/v3/ ... this free version is a welcome change from most others since it saves in the SAME file format as the professional version... I'm just starting but it seems pretty impressive so far. Give it a try... what have you got to lose? $0.00? That's what I thought.

It's Softimage XSI :) Not Softimage, Softimage is the generation of packages before XSI. Although this version uses the same file format as the full, take notice this is version 3 and the full is 3.5. And you will be stopped from doing commercial work by license.

Well I DID say XSI in the post... so fuck off. It doesn't really matter in the title, that just an attention grabber. You'd view it one way or the other. Besides... if you want to, you can just edit it.

It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.
