Great Design :) Package of choice? Are you going to be also adding dynamics/particles to bring it to life?

I went to his site and his tuts are in LW, so I guess LW

I like that a lot.... I love the detail and all

Yeah... Looking at the picture more, i See you've lost your touch for detaling at the front of the machine? I don't know if you just ran out of things to put there or did you get bored and wanted to get the model over with?

It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.

Thanks for the comments guys...... package of choice is indeed Lightwave. And Randuin, I have neither 'lost my touach' nor 'got bored'. This is WIP... i.e. WORK IN PROGRESS, so I would ask for such pointless comments to be saved until I have stated the model to be finished. Not being funny or anything, it just isn't finished.

Cheers!

Amazing :D

Do you have any other projects you are working on at the moment you can show us pls?

CAClark

Best bet is to go to www.f-nine.co.uk and look in the projects section. I have a load of stuff I need to finish up there :)

Cheers!

Awwww Very Nice Work :D

Do you do this as a job or is it a hobbie leading to work or what?

Your not too far away from me about 70 miles, Sheffield has good clubs too ;)

Randuin

How was I supposed to know this was WIP? But good stuff nevertheless

EDIT: Damn you lightwave users and your actually workable boolean :P Almost any other package (Max in particular) Polygonal boolean will just... crash... heh

CAClark
2003-09-04, 10:31 AM
Randuin, no worries man. As for Boolean, LW doesn't crash when you use it, but it fucks the geometry over big style, leaving A LOT of fixing to do.

Onyx, I do it for a living, mainly for Argonaut Games..... work for the company that used to be Particle Systems (we did the Iwar games).... currently working on an Xbox title called Powerdrome... see the site here:

http://www.argonaut.com/microsites/powerdrome/index.htm

I also work freelance with an associate under the name of Threeway Studios ( www.threewaystudios.com ), much content is the same as my personal f-nine site.

I'll post more soon anyway.

Cheers!

Wow, that's some really incredible stuff. I have yet to be able to make a lamp in Lightwave, let alone something as incredible as that.

Very nice work, but what's with the wings?

Jamesadin

Spiffy. Well done! I like all the detail put into it. :)

CAClark

Whats with the wings?

Randuin
2003-09-04, 05:13 PM
Heh Never mind the wings! they rock, but the head =\ Looks almost sticked on... hehe

CAClark
2003-09-04, 05:49 PM
Cos it is basically LOL I'll be working that to be more attached... kinda braced struts etc....

They look cool, but wings are not very well adjusted to space flight as far as I can remember.

CAClark
2003-09-05, 10:06 AM
Wings techncally would make little or no difference in space, but it could be that the wings work to provide the off centre gravimetric force for manouverability... plus it is supposadly capble of atmospheric flight by gravimetric aid. Additionally, and to some dgree more importantly, the more threatening a war cruiser looks the better... to instill fear in enemies.

Yeah, I drop in the forums now and again, sometimes my website traffic stats shows hits originating from the ina forums. Its mainly the art related posts I look at.

The VOrchan is due for heavy rework, as a source from FI who made the orignal has highlighted to me how far off my proportions are, so a large part of the model will be rebuilt ver son :/

Cheers!

Other than that small artifact at the head it is rather amazing work :) Texture it!

CAClark
2003-09-14, 02:30 AM
Thanks, that artifact is because I only have one global smoothing angle applied so far. Texturing will come soon enough, geometry needs finishing first :)

Randuin
2003-09-14, 05:01 PM
As expected, didn't think an experienced person like you could just leave such an obvious artifact there :P I suppose you have more things planned for the wings?

`Insolence`
2003-09-14, 05:17 PM
I'm sure he does, they look sort of bland, maybe make some sort of flaps visible, like on jets, but its for space.. hrmm, like missils that rise out of the wins, or maybe 2 big ass lasers.

Food for thought :X

Anyway, awesome work, my dream in life is to do stuff like this (for movies/games/shits and giggles)

If you dont mind me asking, is LW a freeware program, i dont really remember, but im pretty sure it costs quite a bit? (I'll google this badboy right now)

RoboticSilence
2003-09-14, 05:32 PM
It's most defnately NOT freeware, in fact, it's roughly $1600.

Cheers.

Sovereign
2003-09-14, 05:37 PM
That looks oddly familiar to the VORCHA class klingon battlecruiser. It just looks more 1337 and has that added third wing. Hey tell me if ya ever make a K'tinga class vessle. Or my favorite, the Sovereign class enterprise!!! :D good job

CAClark
2003-09-14, 06:08 PM
Actually, although LW isn't freeware per'se, you can download a free 'enterprise' edition (smaller res render saving, but it's all there features wise).

You were close, its not a Vorcha from Star Trek, but a VORCHAN from B5 (Centauri). The wings are plain, but then they are supposed to be, I have considered adding radar/sensor bulges maybe.

Getting there, not far to go on geometry.

Cheers!
