User Account problem on XP

Well, today my computer fuxxed up for god knows why, and it told me my system folder was gone or corrupted. It couldn't be repaired, and I didn't want to reformat and lose all the shit I have. I instead installed over the windows that was previously installed, and it worked fine. The only problem I have is I can't access the old user accounts, so I lose my shortcuts, my program list, favorites, and a bunch of other small stuff. It's nothing serious, just a bunch of annoying stuff to lose. If you know a fix for it, please tell me.

Did you try going through the documents and settings folders and finding your program list and favorited manually?

You should be able to copy them.

You could try setting the permissions for the root of your hard drive to Administrator can do everything (should already be this way), then tell it to set all child folders the same way. I forget what the exact steps to do this, but I had to do this before when I was messing with permissions settings and messed up. This will restore access hopefully. Making new accounts and copying info is up to you. Note that this may screw up the permissions on the current user folders...

One of the ways that you can fix this, is to log onto an old configuration that worked correctly, when you restart your computer, hit F8, then go onto the last known good configuration, (For XP), then normally you can access the old stuff as it worked correctly, if this doesn't work then you will want to hit F8 again after you restart and go to safemode and go to administrator, and fix it from there in control panel.
