What do you use as a download manager?
I use kontiki. It's not very good, but it gets the job done. Pretty fast, too.

DAP, for sure.
They split the fileyour downloading into several pieces and download them at the same time, making your download speed much faster..

I'm on cable with a provider that stays up to date, my normal downloads are only capped by the host of the file, I used DAP to download PlanetSide and the download with the normal IE downloader was about 80-100kbps, when I downloaded with DAP it was 250-400 kbps.

I think mines around 100, but I don't use a manager. Hey does anybody know how fast T3 downloads/uploads ? Just a thought.

Um... like... faster than hell... You can measure it in Megabytes per second.

DAP, definitely, I also like the Pause/Resume options. Even though in some sites, if you use it to download something, you'll just get an empty file (no files to extract). Because the site doesnt support splitting the downloads or something.
That sounds like a really great tool to have, could some one please take a few mins to explain about this please ie: which download managers are best , and easy to use,
and maybe also dumb it down alittle for people like me who have never even heard of this before.
I have 1meg modem will it help me?

You mean 1Mbit line? Not much. Since your DL is up to 125kB/s.

256 K (DSL) 256,000 bps
640 K (DSL/Cable) 640,000 bps
768 K (DSL/Cable) 768,000 bps
T1, DS-1 1.544 Mbps
T3, DS-3 44.736 Mbps
OC-1 51.840 Mbps

i use DAP
i have 768 k dsl, but my download speed cant get above 80 kb per second, even with DAP on. I dont know why this is :(
Mr.Lee
2003-08-08, 04:34 AM
Because you got a cap on your connection. DAP wont help you much unless the site you are dl from allows eg 15kB/s on each client.

hmm is there any way to get rid of that cap  ???
Or is that illegal ??

That's illegal, you can unlock your cable modem, but you can get charged with bandwidth theft, which is a serious crime I guess.
Mr.Lee

You dont "unlock" the modem. The cap is based what your connection speed is. The only way to remove it is to h4x your isp comps and thats a illegal action.
