Well for like 2 weeks now i have been getting some pop up ads, they are not in a internet explorer window but rather in like a windows window, kinda like when you get an error, even when im not using internet explorer or the internet they pop up, i have used ad-aware but it neevr gets rid of it, i believe its a program that is installed on my comp, the windows that open have title " Messenger service" and i was wondering if anybody knows whats the deal with those and if somebody knows how to get rid of them.

You both must have XP. On XP I believe you can get pop-ups even while offline. You gotta download something to stop it.

Windows has a message service, this service was exploited by this guy (I lost the link to the news article) allowing spam companies (porn sites etc) to send you a message using this service. Last time I checked there was no way to block it, though I have never ever gotten one, not once.

May the sulotion of this problem by turning the service off?
Or does some programs require it?

I am not sure what the way is to actually to turn it off, I never checked into it since I never get them. The program (ip popup stopper) must know since it supposedly does it. ;)
I posted a few requests at a few fxp boards so I will check replys later tonight and get back to ya'll.

Its a Windows service right? Use adminstration tools - services and there is a nice list. And "Messenger" is there too.

Paste this on Start - Run.

%SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s

I'm behind my router, and a firewall, so I don't get any of them... but I reccomend *finding somehow* a version of Ad-Aware professional edition... it comes with Ad-Watch and will catch and popups and identify where they're from.
