Well, I'm planning to get a digital camera, but as I can't say I'm especially skilled in the area, I would really appreciate some help. Currently, I'm leaning towards a Canon PowerShot G3, which uses 4 megapixels and has a great quality and a fairly low price (less than $800), while a Canon EOS-1D, with an enourmously much higher resolution and a skyrocketing price also seems nice.

But I just can't decide.

Depending on the resources... I have a 2.1 megapixel Vivitar...$130 camera and it takes great pictures. But it was a Christmas present, I didn't even want one, but I like this one alot.

$800 is WAY too much unless you make professional movies.

i really agree with MKR on that... i have a COMBONATION mini digital video/still shot panasonic 2-3 megapixel camera that i bought for like $500 on ebay... dont go anywhere near an $800 digital camera that is only stillshot unless you are like considering photography as a career

Got a nice 3 megapixel for $400, takes really good pictures. My suggestion is to just, if you can, test the camera out and look at the quality. Read some reviews on pcworld as well.
