With the right crew, we could be a great news site for games.
am interested in this chruser think about Ign a couple years ago they weren't shit now they are a big corporation, I think if we planned this right and made it into actual competing area we might be able too make it. shit who knows how gamers want too hear about games more then us? With the right sources and people I bet we could get this going.
I think its a good idea! What do you think?

That's right Penguin. Why do we run a gaming forum when there are others that do the same? Why gamble when there is a chance of losing?
Because we can do it BETTER than them with a piece of effort. Give it a thought, if you don't try anything in life, there's no way you'll score.

that sounds right the way we would have to do it is take it to the people and get them to willingly want to pay for our "services" there is plenty of people out there like my self that is tired of being over run by banner ads but is not satisfyed with gamespot, gamespy...

Hey, if I saw something unique, and something that isnt slow and doesnt have ads...I would go in a heartbeat.

Frankly, I never planned to clone Gamespot or IGN. I still beleive we have had this discussion before, but as we've never managed to come to any good conclusions in chat rooms, I guess this very thread could be an excellent place for discussing more about this.
People are dissident about the banner ads, they do look bad in a lot of places, but they bring money to the site. To start with, we wouldn't need them, but if we would consume bandwidth amounts reaching the big T, we would most certainly have to think about extra incomes. For now, coders (PHP and Perl) are neccesary. WetWired is the only person on the team who has a fairly broad knowledge in the PHP area, but one person would hardly be enough to come up with a fully-functional gaming/news portal on time.
Oh yes, while I'm at it, I wish the moderators would post more gaming news in the Announcements' forum, as I enabled the access for all of them.

Yes, feel free to post things worth reading. Personally, I tend to... *cough*, borrow a few things out of the Swedish PCG and translate them, as some stories are unique. :)

the only problem and difference there is is
They got money and we dont. as simple as that
We need something totally original, not reviews, codes, or any of that stuff; because there will always be a site better for it.

People, I am on. I probably can get some "hands-on" news...because I know Chinese, and sometimes I can get news faster...really!!! I am on~

I'd agree. They will get news faster.
Worked with someone 4 years ago whotried to run a news site. He just couldn't compete. Even dailyradar.com couldn't, and a lot of people liked that site.
http://www.gamerankings.com/
That site collaborates ratings of games from other sites. Using that and videogamewreview.com as well as pcgr.com, those 3 resources are nigh hard to top for thoughts on games, and nothing approaches gamefaqs.com for cheat resources.
Making this the best discussion board I'd make the goal here, and news secondary.
My opinion.

No matter how much effort, we arnt beating gamespot, ign, or gamespy in news. Thats like saying, ok lets start up a company and make software, and lets blow microsoft out of the water, but lets only sell Office software, like a word program!. lol... We need something unique

Many people are upset with the big names because you can't get the whole scoop or all the info unless you pay to subscribe. I understand that they need to make money to stay afloat, but there has to be some other way.

Of course, the large sites have a budget for their news. Of course, we could code a little something ourselves, but finding a crew willing to check for news almost all the time is not an easy thing to do.
