View Full Version : To gain more members
The forum has been growing in popularity, but we still seem to be under 40 active users during peak hours. Despite several attempts, our active member flow remains approximately the same. However, we have a new idea for a sharp boost in popularity, advertising at www.nuklearpower.com. With tens of thousands of daily active users, it would be a great way to promote the forum. Unfortunately, a month of advertising costs 200 dollars. This is a steep cost for one person (Chruser), but if you would like to donate a few dollars, we could reach the cost fairly readily, and be well on our way to hundreds of active users constantly online.
So, thanks for reading this, and all donations are greatly appreciated.

A better plan would be to sponser players.... Warcraft III that is.

A HiveMail registration would cost $180, for instance. Very costy, but it can be 100% managed, and fully integrated with the board. In other words, a very fast webmail for all members with no popups and so on.

Ah.. I have a question. I thought in prior discussions, this website want more quality, and more quanity. How can you insure the quality of the people that come from a banner ad? Just curious, I am sure there are other ways, if all you are interested in is sheer numbers...
I dunno... I'm still new here.

Well, the majority of the time the few people we don't want here will feel it and leave. I've said before, we cant expect all new members to stay. but if 20-30% of new members do stay, we'll be doing good.

*Shrug* That's how *I* found this place, through Something Awful.
Nuklearpower's biggest asset is the 8-bit Theater section, that'd be the place for banner ads.

Banner ads show up on every page on nuklearpower.com, including the comics.

Personally, I'd rather spend the money on different things, whether it be some kind of software or a faster server. It really depends on what we could find neccesary.
If anyone would have any idea on what could benefit the board (even if it costs money), feel free to post it in this thread, or PM me. HiveMail is one thing, but of course, $180 for it is a fair lot.
Randuin
2002-11-30, 02:22 PM
exactly! listen to chruser and his words of wisdom! but hivemail just isn't worth it i think
Chruser
2002-11-30, 04:08 PM
Then what IS worth it? If we're not planning to spend it all on advertising, then I could appreciate to get some help to improve the board. Search engine rankings shouldn't really be neccesary.

Good job. You have recieved a gold star.
you should have a d2 item donation type thing. Then sell those items on ebay....im assuming theres a lot of people under 18 who visit zelaron that dont have a paypal account, but would donate items from d2.
:bling:
unless of course you already have that set up, and ive never seen it, because i fear leaving the d2 section.

"There are currently 12 members and 129 guests on the boards."
They just aren't signing up. Altering the colors of the registration button doesn't help at all. Oh, of course, members isn't everything, but it's always fun to have more active people, especially outside the D2 forum as well. :)

Wow we have a huge amount of guests at the moment. Without a d2 dupe method posted.. Where are they coming from?
And is there an estimate for how many of the guests would join or something?
people are probably trying to find out info about bots and banning....bnet caused alot of curiosity, and i know i found this site searching for more info about pindle bots.

It cost money to sticky posts?
How about this:
A quick register box!
Since guests don't see the quick reply box, we could just have 4 fields, Name, Password, Email, Verify Email. I think this would make many people sign up, because they obviously think that the register form is intimidating.
WetWired
2002-12-12, 07:06 AM
So where do you propose that this quick register box appear?

I think the verify email is intimidating >=x
As was inferred in my original text, "Since guests don't see the quick reply box..."
It could go in that space. Maybe we could do something about the verify email, like not require it until you've been registered for 5 days.
Actually, I think that would be very beneficial. It'd take some work, but it'd be good for posting on vbulletin.org as well.
WetWired
2002-12-12, 03:03 PM
The verify e-mail is to ensure that the address was typed correctly, so that you will not lock out a username from use.
Er sorry, I meant activate account (via email) not verify email.
WetWired
2002-12-12, 03:27 PM
The point of activate through e-mail is to reduce the ease of flooding and to assist in keeping banned people banned.
But does it? And that's why we could set it as temp, so maybe they have an hour or two to do stuff before they are required to activate.
WetWired
2002-12-13, 07:08 AM
Then the flooders wouldn't have to activate.
Ok, well anyways, we need it on the DiabloForum, StarcraftForum, and WarcraftForum also because those are probably the 2nd most popular styles for guests. I added the same template to DiabloForum, but apparently it didn't work.
